Just bought a fixed wheel cycle from my local bike shop. Its a Schwinn racer and got it for 7K baht. I really enjoy riding it and its a good alternative to my MTB now the rainy weather here, no riding around the local tracks for some time.

Any suggestions for making it better/ lighter?, such as wheels, crank. The local shop is well stocked plus going to Bangkok on a shopping exped soon. Thanks.

sorry, but why spend more money to improve a 7k THB bike? when 7k would be a stretch to even buy a decent crankset or pedals?

higher quality or lighter cranks, wheels, seatpost, bard, components, pedals and most importantly frame and fork would have been far cheaper bundled as a complete more expensive bike.

a sub 300 hundred dollar bike will have made too many compromises in running gear and frame to tart up.

that said, the schwinn racer is so rudimentary a bike, that there is very little to change, if i were to do anything, i would hold off spending any cash on the bike until it is time to replace the wheels, and mak any improvement there, but the coaster hub on the rear limits your options significantly

Thanks but I just didn't just get off the boat. Just some minor improvements not costing too much. If I had the bucks I would have bought a top of the range job. Anyway here's a pic of cycle & my knees.

My first thought looking at the pic- Toe Clips.

I can't even get comfortable on a bike with no toe clips. But maybe that's just me.

Even bought some in Chinatown for my electric bike, cost me a whopping $8 or so for the set.

And for all those who are going to come back claiming toe clips are a hazard, I have never had a problem pulling out as long as I don't cinch down too tight.

VF that's the beauty of a fixed gear bike, the gears are in yer legs. Only a front brake, & pedal backwards if you can to stop the rear wheel. Black a neat choice, bit like a stealth bike.

Mr Average has some sensible suggestions and toe clips too.
