BMA to review TISI report on explosions
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Governor Sukhum-bhand Paribatra said yesterday that an initial police investigation into the mysterious explosions of two fire extinguishers installed in communities this year concluded on June 10 that they might have fallen and the impact set them off.

However, the city would still wait for the results of the technical probe by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI).

After the incidents, the product's standard was called into question and Councillor Sutha Nitipanon called for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to cancel the procurement of 95,797 extinguishers of the same model and buy better ones.

The deputy governor told the executive meeting yesterday that the city had recalled all such extinguishers and asked the TISI, Police Forensic Office and other agencies to help inspect their casings.

Sukhumbhand said the city wants to review the TISI's report before making any decision.

They might have fallen?!? What from 10 meters? A 100? They shouldn't be able to explode from dropping. Sounds like some company was skimping on the amount of metal in the cylinders.
