BANGKOK, June 18 - Auto sales volume last month dropped by 3.5 per cent year-on-year for the first time in 17 months, according to Toyota Motor Thailand.

The lower May sales volume fell to 111,848 units as a result of most first-time car buyers already receiving their vehicles under the government's first-car scheme.

However, car sales from January-May stood at 634,777 units, an increase of 31.4 per cent year-on-year. Sales of passenger cars grew 53.4 per cent year-on-year and commercial vehicles by 16.3 per cent.

The auto market in June shows signs of slowing down. The market is expected to return to normal after the first-car scheme saw a jump in vehicle demand last year. (MCOT online news)

Rains expected in North, Northeast and Central region from June 20

BANGKOK, 18 June 2013 (NNT) - Heavy rains are expected in the North, Northeast and the Central Plains later this week while rain-induced flash floods and forest runoffs are sweeping across provinces in the East and the South.

The Meteorological Department reported that a strong southwestern monsoon continues to prevail over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, bringing more torrential rain to provinces in the eastern and southern regions, particularly Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong and Phang Nga.

Strong winds will generate up to 3-meter-high waves off the coasts in the South. All ships should proceed with caution.

During June 20-24, the monsoon is set to collide with a low pressure cell from China. Thunderstorms will be expected in other regions including the North, Northeast and the Central Plains.

Complaints hold back Tankhun's endorsement
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Whether Democrat candidate Tankhun Jittissara gets endorsed as MP depends very much on whether the Election Commission agrees to look into the three petitions filed against him, election commissioner Sodsri Satayatham said Tuesday.

She said the Bangkok Election Commission reported that three petitions had be lodged against Tankhun, and if the EC decides to accept any of them, it would have to complete an investigation within 30 days from the day of voting.

If the investigation is not completed in time, the EC will have to endorse Tankhun and complete the probe within a year.
