... The train driver, Khun Somchai, fled the scene and Thalang police is still searching for the engineer...
Is this part of general training in the transportation industry?

Whatever the mishap, be it boat, bus, whatever, first thing to check off on the SOP list:

1. Flee Scene (regardless),

2.

3.

What a Joke it is living in mickie & donald land..

There is no common sense taught in this country to the people and respect....gimme a break!

Problem is with these April Fools joke stories, many Farangs are actually smug enough and stupid enough to think it's true.

And you speak of common sense!! And respect you show for your hosts .....Gimme a break. :o:D

Often wondered why they make foreigners do these stupid visa runs.

For the last few years I've had a non-B visa so only need to travel every 3 months. Since I visit Hong Kong every month for business it’s never and issue. But it hasn't always been like that.

Why does Thailand only give visitors 28 days? Hong Kong for example stamp me in for 180 day.

Is it a bit like the car tax scam where government officials have an 'interest' in which cars are sold. Imported cars have an astronomical tax applied. Result. Officials make Mercedes for there Mai Noi’s and everyone else has to drive an old car. (Or a Pick-up)

Do government officials own domestic travel operations?

Making people travel, wait in long queues, just to make a couple of quid is so selfish.

HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN A CHINESE PERSON ON A VISA RUN?

Surely some of them are foreigners...

Beautiful country, lovely people just run by criminals.

I presume all Generals, Police Colonels and assorted officials of The State Railway of Junk Ceylon know that The Orient Express and all passengers ares in a state of Permanent Erection-certainly when it reaches Thalang let alone Kamala and Patong.

Great post! Im sick of doing visa runs. I cant wait until im 50 and married to my Thai girl friend. I guess its just another way to suck the pennies out of farang's pockets! They should issue the people who are living here with special types of visa's or something. It costs me 4'000 baht each run i make, that includes 300 baht to the burmese officials and 300 baht for the boat trip to burma, which if any of you make your crossings in Rayong should only be 50baht per person. You got to give it to them for trying thou'

Train derails at Phuket

Foreigners rescued - Phuket Train station closed until further notice

Phuket train derailed this morning

PHUKET: -- More than 30 foreigners on visa run from the Malasysian border to Phuket, was slightly delayed when express train 616 from Padang Besar went into a Lao Khao factory near Sarasin Bridge on the way to Phuket International Railway Station (PIRS) Friday evening, Bangkok Post reports.

A spokeswoman for State Railways of Thailand said there were about 310 passengers on the train when the accident happened. She said that the train derailed because it ran out of electricity.

The train driver, Khun Somchai, fled the scene and Thalang police is still searching for the engineer.

The Lao Khao factory reports not much distruptions in operations other than the constant arrasment from the police who say that the train driver may have been driving under the influence of Lao Khao. The executives of Lao Khao Co., Ltd. maintain the theory that it was Boon Seng and not Lao Khao who is to blame.

Thai Beverage Association has issued a warning not to drink Lao Khao as the storage unit of the

factory may been contaminated by the crash.

The mishap happened outside Amphur Thalang when the train was approaching Amphur Kathu in Phuket province. The train was on its way from Kohok Maak to Patong.

- This is typical for the Thai-Rak-Thai to prohibit foreigners to join the erection tomorrow, says Phuket Democrat leader Pol. Gen. Lt. Kaprotmaidai Maomaak to Phuket Gazette.

- We was actually planning to open this route next week, says Khun Somchai of State Derails

Department. This train is notable to rail off in Patong, and we are working on a solution, says

Khun Maibpai Igrotfai.

We have instructed all our train drivers not to drink during the Surathani-Phuket route. Because

of the current heat wave, our drivers have been 'roon maak'. He explains:

- The locomotive engineer has the job of running the train. They must accelerate the train with the throttle, and use air or dynamic brakes to slow or stop it. Apparently Khun Somchai, heavy on the Lao Khao, didn't keep a close eye on the gauges so the speed and 220 Volt battery charge went completely TiT.

The Thai Truck Drivers Union (TTDU) says that even though it was the fault of the driver, who was apparently driving under the influence, they would go on a nationwide strike in case any action was taken the driver.

Mama-San Khun Somchit, said that it's sad that these foreigners can not vote in the provincial election as planned. She said that it's amazing how these foreigners can be so intoxicated so

early in the morning as well. -"They can't have election tomorrow in these conditions".

Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura said that Phuket Railway station will open again for passengers on April 2.
