Phuket train derailed this morning

PHUKET: -- More than 30 foreigners on visa run from the Malasysian border to Phuket, was slightly delayed when express train 616 from Padang Besar went into a Lao Khao factory near Sarasin Bridge on the way to Phuket International Railway Station (PIRS) Friday evening, Bangkok Post reports.

A spokeswoman for State Railways of Thailand said there were about 310 passengers on the train when the accident happened. She said that the train derailed because it ran out of electricity.

The train driver, Khun Somchai, fled the scene and Thalang police is still searching for the engineer.

The Lao Khao factory reports not much distruptions in operations other than the constant arrasment from the police who say that the train driver may have been driving under the influence of Lao Khao. The executives of Lao Khao Co., Ltd. maintain the theory that it was Boon Seng and not Lao Khao who is to blame.

Thai Beverage Association has issued a warning not to drink Lao Khao as the storage unit of the

factory may been contaminated by the crash.

The mishap happened outside Amphur Thalang when the train was approaching Amphur Kathu in Phuket province. The train was on its way from Kohok Maak to Patong.

- This is typical for the Thai-Rak-Thai to prohibit foreigners to join the erection tomorrow, says Phuket Democrat leader Pol. Gen. Lt. Kaprotmaidai Maomaak to Phuket Gazette.

- We was actually planning to open this route next week, says Khun Somchai of State Derails

Department. This train is notable to rail off in Patong, and we are working on a solution, says

Khun Maibpai Igrotfai.

We have instructed all our train drivers not to drink during the Surathani-Phuket route. Because

of the current heat wave, our drivers have been 'roon maak'. He explains:

- The locomotive engineer has the job of running the train. They must accelerate the train with the throttle, and use air or dynamic brakes to slow or stop it. Apparently Khun Somchai, heavy on the Lao Khao, didn't keep a close eye on the gauges so the speed and 220 Volt battery charge went completely TiT.

The Thai Truck Drivers Union (TTDU) says that even though it was the fault of the driver, who was apparently driving under the influence, they would go on a nationwide strike in case any action was taken the driver.

Mama-San Khun Somchit, said that it's sad that these foreigners can not vote in the provincial election as planned. She said that it's amazing how these foreigners can be so intoxicated so

early in the morning as well. -"They can't have election tomorrow in these conditions".

Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura said that Phuket Railway station will open again for passengers on April 2.
