Popular Post TheWizardofRnR
Just wanted to drop a personal note to all my friends here in Phuket. Flower and I are moving North to concrete pastures! What has driven us to make the move, although partly due to health reasons, there's also the greed that has finally ticked us off , as it has upset people constantly over the last 5 or 6 years. I mean in 1985 when I thought Phuket was the greatest beach I'd been to since Coney Island as a kid! Alas , that feeling has been losing its allure more and more ; when it costs 200Baht for a 1/2 kilometer Tuk-Tuk ride fron Jungceylon to our shophouse, approximately a 1 minute ride. I just feel its way too expensive but I also feel it's a rip off! In '85 we paid 10 to 20 baht for a ride from one end of the beach to the other , the guys who drove us were friendly. I opened Cheeseburgers in Paradise @ Paradise Bar &Bungalows in '88 .The tuk tuk driver charged me 250B round trip to shop at Sin&Lee's in Phuket Town and return to Patong .This week a rental car and driver charged me 1000B for a 2 hr.immigration retirement extension trip, up 200B from last year, Why? Because they raised the price to make up for the lack of business not any other reason. That is the thinking that is really killing Phuket not even to delve into overpriced rents that makes it hard to survive even when your business is well received by a dwindling expat population. So to my old friends , please stop in to say so-long and visit our sell off of our household stuff and restaurant equipment , there's an ad in the Classifieds with list of some stuff!, is this weekend and all next week. They Paved Paradise put up a parking lot and too many 7-11s and Mini-marts! Thanks to all the great folks from all over the world who made Phuket a fun place to be(especially my Rock Hard days), but the comradery of Phuket just doesn't seem the same.Au Revoir! NomadJoe
So long Bill and good luck. Getting around affordably is such a problem here. I can't say I blame you. If your still here July 6th and 7th, I hope you can make it to the US independence day event at the airpark so everyone at the Navy League can say goodbye. I know you were a supporter in the past. justben
Bangkok maybe north of Phuket but that's about it. North in Thailand refers to Northern provinces. Sorry for being such an "idiot"

Don't know what concrete pastures of the North you are talking about Anyway I wish you good luck. Doubt he'd be moving to Chiang Mai with all its smoke/smog as he mentions he's moving for health reasons. And as for the poster calling Phuket, yet has Pattaya as his location, words fail me Anyway Bill, good luck with your move, wherever it is that you're heading. I know a few guys who have left Phuket, for Pattaya, and they were all die hard Phuket fans, in the past.

Popular Post bendywire
I wish to state that those arguing about the pros and cons of Pattaya or Phuket are both missing the point that both are dumps and each one signifies everything that is wrong in Thailand. I wouldn't be seen dead in either hole again. Sorry to the OP and I wish you well sir in the future but there are better places to chill out and relax in.
DonaldBattles
Bill you and I have kinda of followed each other around since the eighties. People figure out how to kill a place. I bought my place in Chiang Rai 8 years ago and was super hillbilly land. Now the dam fools have surrounded me on both sides. Thank god I have a big wall around my 5 rai to keep the dopers and drunks out. People want to destroy a peaceful form of life. I bought a lot of things from Sin and Lee. A small shop but they had what we wanted in Phuket. You know how to make a good burger there is a spot for you in the north. I wish you peace and happiness where you go.
