Hotel around 1000 baht

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Since it's been a while since i stayed in a hotel in CM i thought i would ask the experts.. My friend(Thai female) is looking for a hotel near the canal with swimming pool for around 1000 baht a night. She will be travelling with her 2 sons and mother in law(Australian). Can you recommend somewhere? Thanks in advance.

We recently stayed in the Prince Hotel for a week while house-hunting, about mid-way and slight north between the Moat and Warrarot Market and had a very pleasant stay. While the hotel is certainly well past its prime, it was clean, quiet, the room spacious, the staff friendly, and the pool clean. There is a nice restaurant beside the lobby, and while not having the most extensive menu, had enough to give different delicious meals at relatively low cost each and every day. Less than a 10 minute walk to either Warrarot Market or Thapae Gate. The room has its own lock box and the front desk offers bank-style double-key safe deposit boxes. In fact, the only negative comment I can make about the place was that the elevator was slow.

One caveat... I don't know where the pool is that is featured on their web site. The pool we swam in was a lot smaller. However, the Prince Hotel was the only place in town that was pet-friendly and under 1,000 baht per night.

Do you mean the canal or the moat, the latter is the square ring of water that runs ariound the old town, the former is a sizeable drainage canal to the West.

Technically, the moat is a canal and reckon that's what our buddy meant.

If they don't mind no pool (and Maccie'Ds), bung em in the Imm opposite the Gate, my mate. They are then near the moat/old town, close to the Sunday market and can also walk (or songthaew, it's on the main route) to the bazaar. wink.png

the north hotel has the same and is in a similar area with a pool

IF you're refering to the Moat then my suggestion would be The Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, THB 1,200 through Agoda, it's a four star with a great pool and an excellent reputation, not on the moat but close enough to it and also close to the Night Bazzar.

Second choice might be the Amora Thapae at 900 baht also through Agoda (or similar).

Jackr: take a look at the definition of a canal and a moat, then go ask any CM resident where they would go if you said, go to the canal.

With a family I'd do a nice hotel like Amora or Mae Ping (both mentioned above) or Centara Duangtawan. Even though they're (not too far) outside of the old city moat, they are solid choices. Within the moat you're more in boutique guesthouse territory, most of those cose more than 1000 baht.

(The Prince hotel that was mentioned is an ancient relic. Another ancient relic, the Anodard hotel is also considerably less than 1000 baht, but is at least inside the moat area and has a bit of a pool. But I recommend the ones menioned above.)

Yes there's no denying the Prince is a relic but having stayed there on 2 back to back yearly trips 3 months each year;2005/2006 (long in the tooth then) I can give it a thumbs up.

Having just re-read your original post I must apologize for my recommendation. Frankly, I saw 'canal' but my brain read it as 'moat.' The Prince Hotel IS on the east side of the Old City, not the west side by the canal.

You may yet be right, the OP has yet to clarify.

Not sure how you got those prices. But since she is not actually going until; December. She will definately not get that price.biggrin.png

Had a couple of days in CM around New Year when Dun 2 Wan was hitting 3 K a night so ended up in the Royal Lanna instead for @1100 Bt which was fine and handy for Red L.

Got a small pool, rooms OK and breakfast was better than expected.

I actually thought she was going next month. The wife only gave me the info today.smile.png

I still think he meant the moat. "Canal" makes no sense as a place reference; if referring to the Canal Road then that's a huge area; could be anywhere between Mae Rim to the North and Hang Dong to the South.

Here's my favourite, newish, nice staff, pool, WIFI, good location and under 1000Baht. I have spent weeks here when house hunting and really like it but I would not recommend the breakfast - apart from that great place.

May be cheaper through Agoda

I agree, we spent a couple of weeks there when we moved back to CM two years ago, the hotel was very good at the time but you're right, the breakfast was best avoided, I'd advise anyone staying there to foregoe the breakfast and negotiate the rate down instead.
