PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least thirteen people were killed during a suicide attack targeting a mosque in northern Pakistan, officials said Friday.

Several worshippers were gathered at a mosque in the Gulshan Colony area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when the suicide bomber launched the attack.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shaukat Khan confirmed the incident, placing the death toll at thirteen, Geo News reported. In addition, at least 28 others were also injured, according to medical officials.

According to authorities, the bomber entered the mosque, which is adjacent to the Madrasah Hussainia, through the back door during the seminary. Witnesses said shots were fired prior to the explosions, and a prayer leader later told the media outlet that a security guard had been shot dead before the explosives were detonated.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack, but the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, through a statement, denied being involved.
