Alleged victim of a hit and run
Willie Braid, 54, was involved in a crash with a lorry while he was riding a motorbike in the capital of Bangkok on July 27. The Scottish man was then rushed to hospital with life-changing injuries and the driver of the lorry is alleged to have fled the scene. Following the crash and the injuries Willie sustained, he suffered kidney failure and was placed in an induced coma. Both of his legs had to be amputated below the knee and he still requires round the clock care in hospital. His sister June, who flew out to Thailand after she was informed of the crash, told the Daily Record: "He's come out of the coma but he doesn't know where he is or what's happened. Crime Man Killed After Surviving 2 Previous Assassination Attempts
Picture courtesy of CH7. A 35-year-old man has died after being ambushed and shot outside his home in Sisaket province. Despite surviving two previous assassination attempts, this time he succumbed to gunshot wounds while being rushed to hospital. The victim, identified as Mr. Wuttipong, was discovered seriously injured behind his one-storey concrete house in Ban Phon Yai, Kanthararom subdistrict, Khukhan district. Rescue workers attempted to save his life by transporting him to Khukhan Hospital, but he died en route. At around 23:30 on 5 August, police and forensic investigators arrived at the scene. Evidence of multiple gunshots was found near a fold-out picnic table in front of the house. Local detectives and officers from the Sisaket Provincial Police Investigation Division gathered additional forensic evidence and collected footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the assailants. Ms. Thanu, 49, a neighbour living opposite the victim, told reporters she was at home when she heard what sounded like loud banging, at first mistaking it for someone hitting a metal panel. It wasn’t until her sister came calling that she learned Mr. Wuttipong had been shot. Together with other locals, they contacted emergency services. She added that the house had been targeted by gunfire once before, several months ago, but no one had been injured at that time. “I don’t know why people keep coming to shoot here. It’s frightening, we have small children in our home,” she said. Ms. Nattanaree Butr-ngam, 46, a local subdistrict councillor, revealed that Mr. Wuttipong had previously survived two shooting attempts, the first near Wat Sophon temple, close to his home, and the second just outside his own house, the same location as this final and fatal attack. She described the victim as quiet and reserved. “He would often sit in front of his house. I’d see people waiting there to get tattoos from him and he often brewed kratom tea to drink.” Although Mr. Wuttipong had been screened twice in community anti-drug initiatives, no substances were found in his system. Ms. Nattanaree suspects the murder was the result of a long-standing feud. Police say the gunmen arrived on a motorbike, wearing face coverings. CCTV footage shows the suspects circling the area several times before the shooting. Investigators believe two people were involved and are working to identify them. The embassy emphasised that neither the Thai government nor any other parties had planned such actions. The statement reminded the public that Japan's aid focuses on non-conflict areas and urged people to halt the spread of inaccurate information, reported Thai PBS World. Japan also reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution. The embassy highlighted its desire for Cambodians to resume their daily lives without conflict disruptions. The source of the false reports remains uncertain; however, a Kyodo News article from June 21st suggested that Japan has a broader plan to supply defensive gear, including drones, to various countries. This aligns with Japan's initiative to secure safe shipping routes in the Indo-Pacific, where Chinese military influence is increasing.
