Mosha
Don't put them in with Tiger Barbs or any other known fin nippers
alfalfa19
As I recall, I used to keep them in community tanks with fish such as platys, catfish, swordtails, etc. Just don't keep them with anything small enough that the betta can bite its head off. planemad
Betta Splendens are normally very placid fish, who are members of the gourami family and are bubble nest builders. You will know you can only keep one male in a tank, however, quite the opposite to their name, many of the smaller fish will try to nip its fins. As mentioned, tiger barbs and their derivatives are notorious! Even neons and cardinals have been known to nip at them. I wish you luck, personally I would not keep this sort of fish in a community tank. There are many varieties of highly coloured dwarf cichlids which can add vitality to your tank and will also live at all depths whereas the betta will live only at the water surface. I have noticed hes not moving around much but seems ok I heard they like 25 degree heat If so am i causing him discomfort as I have no heater ! I've tried a couple of buddah shrine lights next to the tank but I'm not sure if they help much
Chao Lao Beach
I read every where, 1 male per tank. Out of interest, we had a 400m2 pond full of them, I presume they are territorial and sort it out as in nature.
