Thai passport for my British/Thai baby boy

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Does anyone know exactly what we'll need for him to get his Thai passport? Is it at the government offices, off canal road? Anyone know about procedure too, how long, how much?

Thanks a lot

Kate

Thai birth certificate, Thai parent's ID & house book is all that's needed I think. You need copy of your passport too. They take the photos. They post the passport less than a week later. Cost around 1000bt? A hell of a lot easier & cheaper than getting the UK passport.

I would think you would need the English certs translated to Thai.

Worth going there and asking first I guess.

Very helpful staff there.

OK what I needed to do (more than a decade ago) - kids born in UK. First needed to get Thai Birth Certificates, this was by means of Tabian Bahn (Mother's), mother's ID card, my passport (authorised copies and signed by me X 2), Marriage Cert. (we had a Thai one as we were married in Thailand - for British one you probably will need authorised Thai translation of that too), copies of British Birth Certs (didn't need translations - but maybe just because we were in the UK at the time and the Embassy recognises them), kids were finger printed (using a scanner not ink - new tech back then). We did it through the Thai Embassy in the UK, all of us had to attend and authorisation of copies was done there and then - tiny interview, just to make sure we were all who we said we were - no real questions just name, address, and confirm we were married and compared to photo id (passport/Thai ID card).

Birth Certs came back after about 5 weeks (to the UK) and then its easy to apply for the Thai passport (and these days Thai ID card if they are over 5 years old) - just like every other Thai (fill in the form and post documents as per the form - all of which you'll now have).

Not an exact fit and possibly out of date now, but hopefully give you some helpful info.

I think you need to get the Thai birth certificate from the Thai Embassy in the country of the childs birth.

So in this case Thai Embassy in the UK.

I think I'll go one day next week and check, I'll take our passports and his birth certificate and husbands i.d and we'll see. Thanks everyone :)

When my wife went, she called me as I had to sign papers. You will probably need to take your husband along as well.
