7by7 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I can't answer your questions about Thai visas, I'm afraid. As for marrying in Thailand, Thai law says that you will need to sign an affirmation of freedom to marry at the Greek embassy, I'm sure the Greek embassy will have details of how to do that. You then have this translated into Thai and have the translation certified by the Thai MFA. You can then marry at any ampur. As an EEA national exercising a treaty right in the UK you have the right for your Thai wife to live in the UK with you. She will need to apply for an EEA family permit Your wife will probably need a Schengen visa to enter Greece, but I don't know how to obtain a Greek one. Check with the Greek embassy.
thomasteve Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) You can enter Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa if Greece is one of their Visa exempt countries. Otherwise you can apply for a tourist visa to stay longer, You can get married whilst there without needing a different visa. More info here : http://www.thaiembassy.com/quickinfo/show_info.php If you want to revisit Thailand you can do so as above but if you wanted to stay there for more than 6 months (without having to leave and re-enter) then you're best advised to obtain a different visa but that will require you to satisfy additional reporting and financial conditions. My reply was based on your initial post which seemed to indicate that you wanted to go to Thailand for a few months to get married then leave Thailand for as you say : ' UK stay and work'. However, if you want to live in Thailand on a permanent basis a tourist visa will not be suitable and you should refer to the link I provided as well as looking at the correct part of this forum :http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/forum/1-thai-visas-residency-and-work-permits/ Edited June 28, 2013 by thomasteve

So better, I think, that you post them there are keep this topic to questions about her EEA family permit. You do have to be married for her to qualify for an EEA family permit, unless you can show that you have been living together as if married for at least the last two years. So she applies after the marriage in Thailand via the UK visa application centre. EU law says that these permits should be issued with the minimum of delay; they are also free. You cannot do the affirmation of freedom to marry outside Thailand. Thai law says that you must sign it in front of a consular official at your embassy, who then witnesses your signature, and the translation must be certified by the Thai MFA in Bangkok.
Jay Sata Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 The guy is a troll 7by7. Sadly you recently used that term to describe me.

The address where you take the translation of your affirmation of freedom to marry to be certified is: The Legalisation Division Department of Consular Affairs Ministry of Foreign Affairs 123 Chaeng Wattana Road Laksi District Bangkok 10210 Telephone: +66 (0)2 575 1057–60, (0)2981 7171 (at 08:30 – 15:30 hrs) Fax : +66 (0)2 575 1054 Email: [email protected]

7by7 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I don't know how long the Greek embassy will take to notarise it, the British embassy takes, if memory serves, 1 day. Most translation offices in Bangkok are familiar with these, so will do same day. Again from memory, but if you go to the MFA in the morning you can have the translation legalised the same day. So I'd allow three days, but could be less. You can then go to any ampur in Thailand to register the marriage.

"You can then go to any ampur in Thailand to register the marriage." what u mean ? after i get marry i can go there ? and whats a ampur ? thanks again
theoldgit Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 and whats a ampur ? That's a minor typo, he means Amphur, a government administrative office.
7by7 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 i will get the paper from greece embassy in uk You cannot get the affirmation of freedom to marry from the Greek embassy in the UK. Thai law says it must be done at your embassy in Thailand. As you are a Greek citizen this will be the Greek embassy, even though you live in the UK.

7by7 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 No, you are Greek, therefore the British embassy will have nothing to do with it. They will only notarise AFMs for British citizens; just as the Greek embassy will only notarise AFMs for Greek citizens. Contact Greek embassy in Bangkok for how to obtain the form. Complete it and take it to the Greek embassy in Bangkok to sign it and have your signature notarised. If you have been married before also take evidence that the marriage is over; divorce or death certificate as appropriate. Have it translated into Thai by any competent translation agency. Take the original and translation to the MFA to have the translation legalised. You can then marry. Greek embassy. Your first contact with the British embassy will be after your marriage when she applies for her EEA family permit to live in the UK with you. Even then you will not submit her application to the British embassy directly but via the UK Visa Application Centre. However, you/she will first need to complete an online application; starting here.

7by7 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Where you sign the AFM depends on your nationality, not where you live. You are Greek so you sign the AFM at the Greek embassy. Once you are married your wife, with your help if necessary, completes form VAF5 online, following the steps in the link provided earlier. Once complete she submits the online form and makes an appointment with the UKVAC. Then print out the completed form, she signs it and takes it to her appointment along with her supporting documents where she will have her biometrics taken. The UKVAC will then forward the whole application pack to the embassy where the decision will be made.
