PATTAYA:--A 28 year old Motorbike Taxi Driver, who was desperate for money to support his family, decided to commit his first ever street robbery in the early hours of Saturday.

Police were informed of the incident by Khun Jaluan aged 29, who had just returned to the Naklua area after a night out on Walking Street in South Pattaya. She was walking back to her rented room in Soi 14 off the Naklua Road when the motorbike taxi driver drove up beside her and snatched her bag which contained 2,000 Baht and a Blackberry Mobile Phone.

The taxi driver was wearing a red jacket with the number “6” on the back. Police were able to locate him at a Taxi Rank in Soi 19 off the Naklua Road. He did attempt to escape from Police but was quickly caught.

Does anyone know if these motorbike taxi riders are licensed by the city or some authority? Does committing a crime mean they lose their licence?

It is a known fact that taxi drivers are not the brightest , but to be even more stupid by wearing a Vest with identifying number is running into fully retarded zone.

Had he only thought to turn the vest upside down , the police would still be looking for him !!!

I think they just have to have a bike and pay the "boss" of the corner they operate on for the monthly privilege of wearing the jacket and permission to operate.

Not sure how it operates above that level, maybe there is some form of permit/license for the "boss" but to seriously expect that any form of checking is done on the honour or integrity (or even riding ability) of the actual driver would be seriously ludicrous conjecture.

Dang, I lived on Soi 14 for quite some time. One of the loveliest Soi's you could ever find, really.

I suspect there is no regulation and nobody checks whether they have a valid driving licences, insurance or if the bikes are safe, what many tourists (those who bother to get travel insurance) may not be aware is their travel insurance will not cover them for riding on a motorbike even as a passenger.

Why didnt he just pin a note on his back with his name and address in large block capitols ,Stupid is as stupid doeswacko.png

I read somewhere, (which means that it may not be true), that a program was established to help the motorbike taxi drivers a 10% discount on fuel, but only 15% of the taxi drivers signed up for the program. They said this was because only 15% of the taxi bike drivers had a license, which was needed to qualify for the program.

He will be in the remake of "Dumb & Dumber" playing both parts

Technically any vehicle that carries passengers should have a yellow number plate, and they should have a special drivers licence, if you look at the baht buses and "meter taxis" most have these. The motorcycle taxis also have yellow plates on some too, and I'm guessing they are supposed to have a special endorsement on their licence.

Having said all that reality may be an entirely different matter.

First time caught more than likely - he simply forgot he had his jacket on this time. But just another normal day on the streets of Pattaya

Yes.... all that hard work requiring lots of thinkingwhistling.gif

Normal day on the streets of Pattaya? --------------REALLY????????

Is it an every day occurrence?taxi drivers snatching bags? or perhaps is it every day occurrence taxi drivers committing crimes wearing identifying jackets?
