Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
Not salary. Under discussion is capital gains from sales of stocks or mutual funds. In your home country losses offset gains. You make $20K on one fund, you lose $20K on another - loss offsets the gain, $0 profit, $0 tax. Thailand does not allow for offsetting gains with losses, so you will be paying tax to Thailand on $20K you earned overseas as ordinary income. -

Does your wife/partner have male friends?
I guess one has to live in one of these provinces or otherwise have a close connection with it to become familiar with these abbreviations. For me, living in Italy, they are incomprehensible and although having read them here now, if they crop up again in future I will probably have to ask again for an explanation. BKK I know as the airport code for Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and I am familiar with Ubon, Udon and Korat, which I have heard come up in conversation during my visits to Thailand, but the others mean nothing to me and I am not in the mood to memorise the various abbreviations invented by members of this forum for the 76 provinces currently existing and future ones to come. On my part, I shall continue to write my posts in a manner that they will hopefully be understood easily by a wide majority of readers, wherever in the world they may live. -

Switching from marriage visa to visa exempt t
As the 60 day VE entries only commenced from 15th July + 30 day extension, it will be sometime next year (3rd or 4th back to back entries) before we get a clearer picture. Legally married to a Thai you can get an additional 60-day extension. Once Immigration conclude, you're attempting to stay in Thailand throughout the year using VE entries, then they'll start refusing entries. I'm in total agreement with the opinion of @DrJack54 that 'unlimited' does not mean 'back to back' entries and not a good long term plan. The Non Imm O ME is still available from Savannahket, but requires 400K in a Thai bank account for 2 months. The single entry Non Imm O is available without any proof of finances. Entry grants a stay of 90 days + 60 day extension = 150 days. The MFA announced that they hope to have all Thai Embassies using the e-visa application system from Dec 2024. When/if that happens, then proof of financials will be required even for the single entry Non O from Savannahket. If you don't have 400K to deposit in a Thai bank, or proof of 40K per month overseas transfers, then obtaining a 1-year extension of stay based on retirement (subject to being 50 years old) through an agent may be your only long term option. Whilst you still have permission of stay from a Non Imm O visa, you should consider that as a further option. -

Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
In Thailand they can't use computers many examples... policecomputers of different areas are not connected, bank offices are not connected , even the living place and the blue family book are not connected... and AI that will take a few decades before Thailand knows what it is -

Revisiting History: The Unlikely Campaign to Vilify Winston Churchill
We see even in our modern day with the SALT treaties, where the US withdraw at will, and many others, that treaties between governments are not worth the paper they're written on. However, in the case of the British Empire and Nazi Germany there was a common enemy, Communist Russia. Both Hitler and Churchill were afraid of communism, albeit for different reasons. There was not the same ideological antagonism between Britain and Germany as there was between Germany and Russia. Had Britain given Germany a free hand in Eastern Europe and Germany in turn would have done the same for Britain in the rest of the world, Britain would have retained its Empire. It would not make sense to suggest Germany would have invaded Britain, he never wanted to do that, only to knock Britain out of the war later. Britain had nothing to offer Germany, in terms of resources or living space. There would have been no need to seek a conflict with Britain. How do you think it would have arisen? -

Is Oppo the brand for a new Android mobile?
I’m in the market for new, cheap Android, max 5-6k THB, as a secondary mobile. Phone only to be used with light applications like Gmail app, Line etc. No video stuff etc. What’s the best Brand and model for the moment? A larger screen would be nice.. Oppo? Which model in the 5-6k THB range? 🙏 -

Any update on Paxlovid availability for foreigners in Bangkok?
IMO the risk for the elderly is co-factors. Obesity, smoking, drinking etc. You may be right. However, I am optimistic because (a) I don't drink or smoke (b) I am normal BMI (c) I was recently told by a physio I am in the top 10% of my age group for physical fitness. No guarantee, but I feel I have the odds in my favor. -
