need higher toilet or seat

Featured Replies

-note if the nice mods this should be moved to another topic than please feel free to do so , i cant find any that fit -

i look for a more than usual toilet for my mother who is in a wheel chair

or a very thick toilet seat so that she is able to get of the toilet

i live Mukdahan and looked around for this but nothing to find there

In the states it is easy to find a riser for a toilet. They are quite easy to install under the toilet. Here's a picture of some.

There are two types, one is an adjustable frame with arms and a toilet seat that sits over an existing toilet, the other is a type of hard plastic "donut" that sits right on top of the existing toilet and raises it by about 6". I know there is a place on Thepprasit road Pattaya that sells all kinds of medical aids, but I don't know what's available in your area.

never seen those around here but ill see what the forum can tell me , maybey some store i can order it from?

There are a few specialist shops inside shopping malls in Bangkok, such as Paradise Park selling all kinds of aids for elderly people and disabled people.

As toilets are normally cemented onto floor here you could easily have height increased by a cement/tile worker for little cost by adding a brink at base. They also sell higher than normal toilets if you want to replace - the 8k Cotto downflush models are quite a bit higher than normal.

As said hospital supply stores should have the seat type attachments if you want that.

For reference mine ar 39cm at front lip (without seat).

There is also a wheel chair type device with a toilet seat fitted that wheels over a standard toilet, seen them for sale in the medical supply shops down the road from Victory Monument.

Thats what you do.I have also seen a raiser at Fascinos in Pattaya to go underneath the toilet.Fascinos seems to be all over LOS now

Just a thought: might be able to find something suitable in the medical shop across the road from the Out Patient entrance to Siriraj Hospital. They've got lots of things, and although I'm nowhere near there now, someone could stop by and ask. (or even just look about - last time I was there I found adequate English)

http://www.gedling.gov.uk/media/documents/planningbuildingcontrol/LABCAccessible%20Toilet%20Diagram%20and%20Advice.pdf

should give you some dimensions,

Though I disagree the photo is a good example. THe sink resticts users who must access from the left side.

There are very few full hight toilets here you are stuck really with raising existing ones. If you do ensure they are securely fixed.

When I broke my hip, I made my own. I had a frame made of steel with rubber cups on the legs. I fitted a wooden seat with a hole cut it the size and shape of the toilet opening and removed the seat from the toilet and mounted it on the frame. Worked great! It's still in use by the "older" lady in the village!

Might sound daft but if you own or even rent why not ask to rip the toilet out and raise it up higher?

think I'll have a try with something like this ,

also will fit some "armrests " so she can easily (whistling.gif ) go in a standing position

( Yeah, got myself another welding project )

Some years ago I made a thick toilet seat for a long-stay disabled guest, because I was not able to find such an item in any medical supply shops in Bangkok.

I went to a ship's chandler supplier and purchased a cheap, round lifebelt, which is made of hard, expanded polystyrene. I removed the plastic cover and then using a cutting knife, I fashioned a wide groove on the underside of the lifebelt that fitted the shape of my existing toilet rim. I then pushed the lifebelt firmly onto the toilet rim and voila... !

My long-stay guest had no problems at all in using this 'homebrew' toilet seat.

Simon

I've see at least two or three different models at HomePro on Prachachuan rd in BangSue.

OP: I think this would be better off in either the Issan forum where somebody in your town might know of a supplier, or over in the health forum, where somebody might know of a place that ships.

Would you like to move this topic to one of these forums???
