Straight up , let me tell you a story that happened to me in real time.

Excuse the spelling and the third person grammar, and I am not saying this is valid as of today, but let me tell you the story .............the reasons of overstay are yours and mine were maybe different...don't be a hater...............

So, here I was on Songkran --2012..I have been overstaying at this stagay of THB 20 000 when I fly out................

one month lead to another, etc, etc,

That seems to be the max, so every day that you overstay ...seems to be a profit....===if that makes any sense to you...

why am I writing a year later? well I was just re- telling the story last night and the person I was telling it to suggested that I make a post about here, maybe help somebody.......Haters please don't even comment...

Anyways there was I driving about in my little car that I had paid cash for a few years previously..I have been living in the Kingdom for 8 years at this stage with a work permit and everything all in order to that point. Then I sold the company and so ended my work permit and now I had been doing the visa runs, etc and then just let it lapse..............don't hate I know..........

Shoud have , could have................didn't..................

Anyhow, so it is the last day of Songkran....hate that shit....but I don't want to be a complete recluse at this stage..I live near the Pattaya Country Club and I am in my late 40's

Well the missus is doing her thing..I have a hangover, so I decide to head down to Jomtien to see a mate and get on the piss and crash down over at his place....after alll the shenanigans....

Anyhows driving there I am drinking a few cans and just chucking the empties on the floor...

I go and meet up with my mate..and have a few..with him and his missus..........it turns into a late one....... they dont want to drive their motorbikes at this stage...so it is thrust on me to drive down the front in my jam jar........................(car)

No worries , park up and have a swim and a few whilst sitting under the umbrellas..you know the ones.....

How time flies....next minute it is late at night and we are having dinner in a restaurant across the front.............and now it is late and I have have had more than a few..and get t?????

the idea in my head is that I want to go home.........

Stay , stay says my mate , you are way to drunk to drive......but you know how that one goes, when you are the designated driver yourself.......?????

Anyways next minute I am lost driving back to the dark side (East Pattaya) near a very well known police stop..you maybe know the one..near the 7-11 there.....

So there you go, about a dozen cops with a major check point.....oh shit. normally there is about 2 of them and you pay your merry way.............but No, about a dozen,,,,,,..............and serious....................

Fair cop.

They pull me over........blow here blow there.. walk this way.........

YEs..I know, regret is sinking in already.. bear in mind that I am in my late 40"s and hate drunk drivers myself............it is about 2 am...........

Now the blowathon, if we can call it that . is going off the charts.....fair cop mate, but can I give you a Baht 2000 and let us forget about this after all , I am about 900 meters from my home.............

Cut a very very long story short, they find empty beer cans in my car.. I am drunk, and all I can come up with is about baht 2000

So here we go fellas....

I am taken down to Nong Prue jail cells and chucked in there along with every other low life..ok, you can get out at this stage for baht 10 000 and proof of ID, proof of ID being anything with your photo on it at this stage.............................

Ok, cal the missus,finally for baht 500 to the warden............ get down here girl and bring 10K and a copy of DRIVING LICENCE.......pronto..I am drunk, no worries................

No, what does she bring? My passport and 5 k because the account has reached it 's maximum withdrawal.............what? Yes my friends. SCB can only withdraw about 10k on the basic settings......................

And now the cops are like...hey this guy is on an overstay...........<deleted>....30K and we forget about this....immediately , otherwise he is off to Jomtien at 6 am.....it being about 5 am at this stage................so you had better get on your bike pronto..........otherwise the scam stops here and you are in the Thai state ...................and formalities..................

Well, bless her hart, she is phoning around frantically trying to get 5K from her mates...no result..it is 5am after all...and not happening....

So here we go..........

Shacked to another guy (rape) and shackled to the back of a pick up.............in the blazing sun..----------going past all my local haunts.. <deleted>- my hangover is kicking in big time----------------and I am shackled t a guy who just raped a 5 year old....<deleted>..??

I would slap him on any given day..now I am in a bad situation and jointly in the same situation...<deleted>

ok, for the record I am 5 foot 11 inches and I can handle myself , having being in a numerous bar fights in my life.. and I am South African...so all the title blood and snot doesn't bother to much............ although being 45 ..I dont have the lungs like I used to===.not saying that I am a hard man by any stretch...of the imagination, but if you are a little backwards in coming forwards at this stage---you are <deleted>..........

So, into a cell that is 4 meters by 5 meters , yes I measured it....

And 46 other bad boy Thais...

Now bearing in mind that it is Songkraaaaaan week.......

In any case, it was, ...Can I get a bit of floor space..it is wall to wall bodies with a corner that has a shit hole and a tap...covered by a 3 foot high wall for the crapper......

Ok, as mentioned before, I am quite big, and the locals weren't to happy with a big farang coming in................anyways they adjusted their thoughts.....but I do speak Thai fluently...so if this is your situation and you don't speak Thai....this is probably going to be the start of your bad misfortune.......

Next morning after a night of fighting forfloor space, the local NAzi chief arrives,,..and begins everybody to strip down to nakedness...

And turn around and spread your bum cheeks..yes you.....

Now proceeds a lecture for about 15 minutes, obviously in Thai, and by the same guy and his crew , whilst you are standing there naked, listening to speeches with the other 45 guys.

Next minute he is apologizing to me, saying hey Farang, what you doing in this cell, you should be in the one for foreigners...................

In an almost unbelievable speed of light, I am transferred to the next door cell.

About 13 people and I will be number 14.

Well if you have a guy and pay him baht 100 000 (one hundred thousand baht)

You are home and sorted, if you don't the bus picks up on a Friday and takes you to Bangkok, from whence, if you can not pay your own repatriation after 3 months, the Thai government pay for your repatriation..and you are blacklisted for 5 years by all accounts.

I paid the 100 000 (baht) and was duly released after 13 days...the 100k included a drive to the border and start a new tourist visa, et al

in summary what can I say about the whole experience:

• Well, you are talking about about a 4x5 meter cells..it doesn't have air con my friend
• you are loccked up 24 hours a day
• You are sitting on a rock hard floor and trying to sleep there
• If you do not have somebody from the outside bringing you food and water-- you are going to die.
• If you have nobody bringing you stuff from the outside-- you are going to die,
• If you are slightly overweight - you probably going to die
• if you can not fight for yourself-- you probably going t die.
• If you do not have the money to trade yourself out-- you are going to be <deleted>

The summary my friend is:

DO NOT GO ON OVERSTAY

But he did include the following statement in his long and rambling post:-

He would probably have met a similar fate had he been stopped on the street by the BIB for a routine ID check despite having done nothing wrong (apart from overstaying, of course). So the key message to quote his final words is:-

"DO NOT GO ON OVERSTAY"

So doesn't the ATM limit apply to any calendar day? After midnight (and before 5 am) she should have been able to get another Baht 10,000, no?

I realize this is a minor point and your message to everyone is to be cautious if you drive drunk and have overstayed you permission to be in Thailand (although let's face it, had you not been driving drunk, none of this would probably have happened). Hopefully after spending all the time writing this, you absorbed your own message.
