Immigration office busy?

Featured Replies

I wonder could anyone tell me what the situation is at Chiang Mai Immigration office now. I have been away for a few months and my 90 days is coming up and also my retirement is just a few monhts away. How busy is it now? Is there a queue system ... does on-line queue operate for retirement or is that finished. Can I do the 90 days by post? Would be bery grateful for info.

You can use the reservation system for visa renewal but not for 90 day reports, recent reports tell of the CM office being quite civillized of late, no long queues etc, 90 day report should be dooable in15 mins as long as you go later in the day, early afternoon seems good.

See here.

My extension is due in early October. They only allow for ten appointments and I looked the other day and was far to late. They fill up fast as they only allow 10 a day and process 40 a day. Any one who tells you all you have to do is go on line and make an appointment is a little clueless of the reality.

I see you have been here a few years just do as you have in the past go in early and get as close to the door as you can for when they open it. Go in get in the line to receive a number. I am told that they will call that number and issue you one for the line you will be in. I can't say what is happening now but from what I have read it seems like 7:00 is a good time to get there only be sure no one crowds in to the line in front of you. Last year my wife insisted 8:00 would be as good time wrong it was close to 3;00 when we left.

Good luck

Thanks very much everyone for your help and information.

Despite what Hello Dolly says about the queue I would like to try ... does anyone have the link to where I can book on the queue?

I remember trying last year but could not get into the appropriate place as then described by someone on line.

If anyone has the correct link I would appreciate it.

I am hopeless in queues ... always end up losing my place to someone bigger and more self assured ... and with elbows!

On line immigration queue system

I'm thinking there's something wrong with the online system. I've used it 3 times over the last year and there are always spaces 85-90 days down the road. It shows as all spaces reserved right up to 100 days, I don't believe that's right. They had a problem with the system about a month ago so they may be having another one now.

How can you use it 3 times in one year?

It is for yearly extensions.

There's some vacancies on 24 October which is the 99th day, the system can't be used for more than 100 days, all the days prior are fully booked. My guess is that someone is screwing around, perhaps visa agents making advance reservations or maybe just trolls making false bookings.

What makes you think it is only for "yearly extensions"? What if someone has a Non Immigrant-O visa and wants to extend that? What if someone has a multi-entry Non-O visa and makes extensions at different times? What if someone has an Ed visa?

Not everyone is here on a Non Immigrant O for retirement or annual extensions.

They could be various reasons someone may make more than one appointment in a year.

Correct.

The "Queue Online VISA Extension" is exactly that, for all types of visas in fact when completing the appointment form it specifically asks: "Reason for extensino visa" -quite clearly refers to what type of VISA?

I am not supporting anyone using the queue for 90 day reports.

However, I don't think it is as limited as people are trying to make out.

Someone could be changing a tourist visa to a Non-Immigrant O visa, which is not an extension. Then they would need to go back to get the extension of permission to stay.

What I think people have to do is open their thinking a little bit. Not everyone is in the same situation.

Anyone know of agents making the report for a fee?

I'll send you a PM

This "system" is clearly broken. I have never been able to use the "online reservation system". I will show up in the afternoon two days before my one year extension and hope to get a ticket for the following day. Showing up in the morning is too damn stressful. I think people must camp out there all night.

You are clearly using the "system" incorrectly.

I, and the majority of others have no problem using it.

I set my PIM/scheduler to go off at 100 days + 7 before my extension expires. Then look to find something close to that 7 day before date. Have to admit, it was tight even looking that far into advance for an opening for the end of September.

There is a 30 day window for for retirement visas and I guess the same for most others. I use the 100 day + system but then aiming initially for the first day of the 30 day window and move forward from that, not had a problem- so far!

It really is down to planning ahead.

Agreed. My situation is a little different and that I have a lot of documents that have to be completed and signed by the university to get my extension. If I reserve too far in advance there is a good chance something will not be ready and I'm stuck in panic mode. smile.png

The entire queuing process is broke. Once you can get face-to-face with an employee the service is adequate, but getting face-to-face with an immigration employee is becoming a monumental task and seems to be getting worse over time.

Although some TV members will disagree, in my experience the CM immigration office has a serious problem with their queuing process.
