BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul threatened to transfer any Asean ambassadors who could not meet the performance target.

To ASEAN ambassadors who gathered in Bangkok today, he urged all to work harder in promoting trade and investment.

He told reporters later that all ambassadors are encouraged to work harder under the Yingluck government, which will definite last the four-year term. "I just wanted to motivate them", he said.

The minister added that some ambassadors have shown an improvement in performance. Next year, he would also consult with the permanent secretary over a reshuffle, which will affect some ambassadors and director-generals.

Yes he really looks like someone able to motivate and inspire!! whistling.gif

What he really said: Sell rice, or Iceland next! w00t.gif

I guess when you're related to an ex PM, the current PM and the next PM you do have some clout.

Thailand with its huge problem with the rice scam mountain entirely the making of its government that demands of its ministers that the issue is solved and the ric sold - an impossible job given the constraints put on the guy by the government. Here we have Suruphong demanding its ministers get on with ensuring more trade etc. for Thailand itself, where Thailand is rotten with structural problems like rampant corruption, a useless and bent police force, a pitiful justice system and a wholly misplaced superiority complex. I don't think the ambassadors have much hope in selling Tailand at he moment any more than people want to buy Thai rice until something changes.
