What kind of Thai women do farangs marry?

Featured Replies

What kind of Thai women do farangs marry? Here's what I think:

Less than 1%

Less than 1% of farangs marry into the creme de la creme of Thai society. To understand this category, you need to ask yourself a couple of simple questions. First, is Thai aristocracy traditionally Thai-Chinese or Thai-Persian? Secondly, have you ever heard of the House of Bunnag? If you understand the purpose of these questions, you'll understand the category of women I'm alluding to.

1%

About 1% of farangs marry into the upper echelons. This category comprises directors of listed companies; owners of large, successful businesses (possibly with a global reach); and (perhaps) partners of legal and accountancy firms. This category also includes judges and politicians, but I somehow find it hard to imagine a farang ever marrying such people.

2%

Approximately 2% of farangs marry senior managers. I'm referring specifically to women who have very senior roles in large companies (both national and multinational); top ranking civil servants; and women who operate businesses with, let's say, at least 50 or so employees.

5%

Roughly 5% of farangs marry into the middle and upper-middle classes. Women in this category include accountants, lawyers, doctors, dentists, actuaries, marketing managers, designers, bankers, etc etc.

12%

I would guess that somewhere around 12% of farangs marry into the lower middle classes. Occupations include teachers, call center staff, bank clerks, hotel receptionists (university educated), cashiers, etc

30%

About 30% of farangs marry uneducated working class women. To understand this category better, think about shop assistants, barmaids, unskilled factory workers, waitresses, market employees, food vendors, farmers, laborers, etc etc.

50%

Roughly 50% of farangs marry women who are employed in the sex industry or peripheral, ancillary industries. These women includes go-go dancers, hostesses, employees of massage parlors that offer "extras", karaoke girls, street walkers, and so on.

NOTE: observations are based on personal experience only. There's obviously nothing even remotely scientific about this, but I do think that some of the above percentages may be fairly accurate.

I think this has has been done to death, don't really see a need for another resurrection of a topic that will just degenerate into topic about derogatory generalizations toward Thai women.
