PHUKET: -- On July 13, members of the Phuket Loves You Club (PLU) visited the Life Home Project Foundation in Phuket to present a cheque for B115,369.31 – around 50 per cent of the money raised during Phuket Pride Week 2013.

This is the second year that the PLU have organised Phuket Pride. Last year they donated B67,000 to The Life Home Project.

The Life Home Project is a charitable foundation registered under Thai law. It is a non-denominational, non-profit charitable organisation. The projects main goal is to help improve the situation of those in Phuket, primarily women, who are HIV positive and their children (who may be HIV positive themselves) as well as other disadvantaged children.

The main area of the Foundation that the PLU support is its Scholarship Program and their Day Care Centre. The Scholarship system is based on a ‘Godparent’ for each child who pays for their scholarship for one year of education. The PLU intends to become a ‘Godfather’ for many of these children.

Ian Phillips, Chairman of the PLU, said, “We hope that by supporting these programmes we can help to obtain a better future for the children, helping them break the cycle of poverty or stigmatization in which they are trapped.

“We believe that the best way to achieve this is to provide access to education in order to give them the opportunity to have a brighter future and better life. All of us that attended on Saturday really enjoyed the opportunity to meet many of these children who took the opportunity to show us around the centre. To be able to see firsthand the positive affect our donations can make is both humbling and very rewarding.”

Helene Fallon Wood, the Vice President of the Life Home Project, said “We would like to thank the PLU so very much for their donation and their continued support. All of us, especially the children, were so pleased that so many of the PLU members took the time to come and visit us on Saturday.

“Although the children may not have all understood the value of the donation, they certainly enjoyed the ice creams that were bought for them all and enjoyed showing you around the centre.”
