Found this "True online" promotion yesterday.

Description is, as usual, Thai-only. saai.gif.pagespeed.ce.f25DL0fHCd.gif

To make it more worse, these idiots they converted the whole text into an image, to make it impossible, to use google translate.

Well done.

So, can somebody please provide a decent translation from this promotion?

thanks in advance

I have the 15Mbps/1.5Mbps DOCSIS (cable) internet with free "Knowledge" TV channel package for B899/mo, so extrapolating from the promo link you posted it looks like the options are:

12Mbps/1.2Mbps internet access with:

78 Channel "Enjoy" TV package = B699/mo

88 Channel "Knowledge" TV package = B799/mo

95 Channel "Super" TV package = B899/mo

14Mbps/1.4Mbps internet access with:

78 Channel "Enjoy" TV package = B799/mo

15Mbps/1.5Mbps internet access with:

88 Channel "Knowledge" TV package = B899/mo

95 Channel "Super" TV package = B999/mo

It looks like the packages include free installation/coax cable/splitter and free WiFi router.

Live in Amphur Pon Sai, Roi Et near Suwannaphum. Have a Truemove mast in sight of my house. Does anyone know if there is a Truemove shop nearer than Roi Et.

Cheers Mike

Ditto - have had this package for a week now. It's ok - about same speed as my old ToT 10MBS package, but includes for no added cost 95 mostly Thai language channels and a new router (with wi-fi) and set-top box.

English language channels include Ozzie Rugby League & Union replays, some Thai & Asian soccer (current EAFF live) and the occasional interesting movie. There are a few cartoon channels for kids (and childish adults) too.

95% of what I do is 100% legal.

ok thanks, that's what I suspected too.

Cable-Internet...hmm. I would prefer ADSL.

However, does it come with a "one year" contract?

And what's about reliability and international speed?

I am thinking to change my ISP, because TOT is so crappy slow since a few months.

Posted

It comes with 1yr contract and during night, the speed is crawling. I just signed up for 20/2 and was enjoyed only for 2 to 3days. Next at night, the speed hardly hit 1Mbp

Why would someone prefer adsl over cable..

I have changed to docsis and it seems more robust.

This is just an observation.

I just thought that cable must be more suitable than a land line which is a lot older and not really suited for Internet traffic..but I am assuming here..

It is actually cable that is least suitable for internet traffic since it was designed for broadcast - i.e. 1 source to all the customers -- not individual traffic.

Does not matter much since most of it will eventually be replaced with fibre.

Because you can't get a new IP easily.

This is mostly necessary, if you download from a one-click-hoster like "uploaded.to or rapidshare, etc.", without a so called "premium account"

Also some routers have problems, if connected behind a cable modem.

Some features are disabled in this case.

I've had TRUE Docsis for several months (along with 3BB ADSL, so dual internet connections) and frankly there are virtually no practical difference in functionality, reliability or speed.

Those who have poor bandwidth are usually caused by one of three things: 1) They happen to be in an area with many active internet users and/or 2) Line problems which these days are usually caused by old/corroded copper lines, usually inside the house and/or 3) way too high expectations.

^^ In my case it's no.1

My line quality is great (TOT laid a new cable when I moved in), no disconnects and syncs rock-stable with 10Mbit/600kbit

But even at NO-PEAK times, TOT is throttling the speed down to max. 1-2Mbit per connection/dl.

At peak times the speed is much more worse, even a 3-400kbit/s video-stream is stuttering and buffering.

It seems they throttle my line down to 400 Kbit or less. bah.gif

It's just crap, so to say....

I was way better in my former house, even it's in the same area.

^ Did they also lay new cables from the street-post into your house? That is often the source of line problems! 3BB has always been very helpful to me (also Pattaya darkside) and measured the signal at the post, but you can check yourself by buying length of simple phone cable at your local hardware store and throw a wire directly from the post to the modem (disconnect the house line, even being connected to it can deteriorate the signal). This will only set you back a few hundred baht and is a very quick way to check if that's where the problem is.

Where are your video stream from? From within Thailand there should be no problems maxing out the line. From USA I rarely have problems even with hi-def video streams, but Europe can be hit and miss. For a long time I was complaining about poor bandwidth from Denmark, but in the end I found out the problem was actually lack of bandwidth in the transmitting end. They've recently upgraded their equipment and now it's mostly ok.

You are right about the throttling of lines, but they all do that sad.png What does this speedtest show? I typically get 1200-1500 kbps down. That's the real download speed, not the fake cached speed speedtest.net gives you.

Yepp, that was, what I meant.

They laid a new cable from the house to the DSLAM.

Signal/sync is very good and stable:

For the video streams:

One Server is at my house in Germany, with 10 Mbit upload! And it delivers the 10 Mbit, definitely. (Tested with an uncompressed DVB-S stream, which was streamed to a friend in Germany)

The other one is an Akamai CDN server, used by "Wilmaa". There are no bandwidth problems to expect.

For file downloads:

I tried to download the same file from:

Dropbox, Google drive, my Root-server in Frankfurt/Germany and my "home server"

=> max. 2 Mbit/s without Downloadmanager (with a little bit luck, otherwise <~ 1Mbit)

The same file could be dl from Germany with full speed (~50 Mbit/s)

Thanks for the link. I have the 20mb Docsis and asked if I qualify for the package. They said yes, if I upgrade to 12 lol! I asked what if I upgrade to 50mb that's available and they were confused and said they only have 12 and they said they don't offer 20mb and don't understand how I have it because they were only looking at the flyers with the promotion. After some conversation I said I changed my mind and left politely. I decided to just give them a call.
