Probably, seems they kept it discreet between farangs (maybe friends) and excluded thais for a reason. Quite possible a Thai wanted in and was refused so he has ran off to the BIB

wealth
there's a law against any kind of betting games in Thailand ... Everybody signs that to understand together with the arrival card, unless that has been left out now. I remember it clearly states drugs/narcotics, betting are illegal in Thailand and so is prostitution ... How it reality looks like is no secret ... As a farang you're entitled to spend the $ 5,000.00 in any girly bar (9 persons) of your choice in just one evening. Get it?

"Friends playing poker"? Apparently not. This was a group containing several professional poker players (and that is a group of people that personally I would never want to come in contact with). For all anyone knows so far there could even have been some element of a scam involved with amateur gamblers being ripped off by professionals in collusion. Stranger things have happened here. Gambling for money in Thailand is a crime for both Thais and farangs. If you choose to do it you take your chances, quite literally.
