I will be buying a tablet computer and taking it out of the country, and whilst I'm coming back the tablet isn't.

Am I right in thinking that as I live in Thailand I cannot claim the VAT back?

Correct. VAT refund is only for tourists/ persons who stay less than 180 days a year in Thailand.

Prices for IT in Thailand are high, check if you cannot buy it cheaper at your destination.

@Mario2008, thank you I thought that was the case.

I am buying a basic Ipad Mini as a gift for someone in the UK when I visit, 11,200 Baht here and the equivalant of 12,800 Baht in the UK, and whilst I could get the VAT back if I took it out of the UK, I won't be as I will be leaving it with the recipient.

I'm only talking about 700 Baht or so anyway.

Thanks for your response
