August 2, 201312 yr I took this photo last week sitting in the United Lounge at SFO. They have moved the burnt out wreckage of the Asiana 777 that crashed landed there a couple of weeks back into plain view of all airport passengers hmmm one good view for nervous passengers waiting for their flights.
August 4, 201312 yr It could be a good cubby house for the kids. Is the report out yet for this crash? It was pilot "push-on-ites" wasn't it. Pushing minimas. Edited August 4, 201312 yr by Chao Lao Beach
August 4, 201312 yr Popular Post It could be a good cubby house for the kids. Is the report out yet for this crash? It was pilot "push-on-ites" wasn't it. Pushing minimas. No it wasn't "pilot push on". Where did you get that idea? The sudden wind gust exceeded the demonstrated cross wind limit limit during the landing flare, thus use of the rudder during this brief period would not be able to maintain directional stability. There was no suggestion that the limits or minimas had been exceeded by the crew during the approach to land. The reported weather conditions although gusty were within all laid down parameters. Had it been an Airbus instead of the ATR the results could have been catastrophic.
August 4, 201312 yr The last time I saw the wreck of the plane it was at the chaweng end of the runway behind the Chinese temple and graves, dont know if it is still there or has been moved. Was still there last week...1st Aug
August 5, 201312 yr The last time I saw the wreck of the plane it was at the chaweng end of the runway behind the Chinese temple and graves, dont know if it is still there or has been moved. Was still there last week...1st Aug Well there must be 2 of them then. According to THIS only one has been scrapped.
September 12, 201312 yr Author Now some weeks later, no sign of any salvage attempts, but noticed today that the plane has been painted white (at least on the side facing the road). Maybe this is where the other, larger airline got the de-identifying idea?

October 4, 201312 yr Or - as Samui is such a 'green' island, how about dropping it in the sea to make a man-made reef?

October 4, 201312 yr Or - as Samui is such a 'green' island, how about dropping it in the sea to make a man-made reef? Being a diver, that thought crossed my mind, but with somebody having died in the plane, that will be a no go for the Thai side of decision making on such a proposal. The other problem will be that the hull, as it is now, would need to be anchored into the ocean bed to prevent it from moving around with the strong currents that do occur here. The hull lone is just way too light to stay in one place.
October 5, 201312 yr i ve just seen it near seatrans pier in nathon...never seen the plane here before..or maybe was too early and it was a vision;-) Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
October 5, 201312 yr Probably rolled off and the driver didn't notice till he got to to the scrap-yard.
October 6, 201312 yr This was on Samui news they are going to drop it in the sea not sure where though.
October 6, 201312 yr Mystery of the aircraft solved, Majcha Air Samui Artificial Reef 1 October 2013, Majcha Air Artificial Reef project is calling on other clubs/project leaders to join in creating an artificial reef in a effort of Co-operative Social Responsibility. The plan is to create the reef on the 18th- 20th of October. The hope is that this project it will inspire others to embark on similar projects to save and protect Koh Samui Natural resources. Continued here. http://www.samuitimes.com/mystery-of-the-aircraft-solved-majcha-air-samui-artificial-reef/
October 7, 201312 yr In principle a good initiative but it seems that nobody with a diving background has been consulted and IMHO the plane will just disappear with the first storm since it's way too light to stay in a fixed position without being anchored down.
October 16, 201312 yr Here it is, with a new fishy paint job, they seem to be setting up a fun raising party.... 200 baht PP I think.....a few vendors setting up too... (this evening) There was a guy blurting out some thing over speakers, so loud that impossible to stay around ...(not that I was planing to ) When driving back, there were not too many people..... perhaps there will be boom boom all night! This may help if anyone can read the Thai... but I think it looks like it will be a dive site... lets hope tied down well!
October 18, 201312 yr It would have made a great training aid for rescue or security drills. Rescue ??..............Security ?? Drills......do they do that in Thailand. Edited October 18, 201312 yr by oldsailor35
