Thanks alot.

Just keep everything inside don't say anything or acknowledge a problem then it wont affect you greatly, just make you a little concerned.

To other people pretend to be stupid not listenig to their stories You agree?

May I propose a slightly different translation of the first sentence and leave the "acknowledge a problem" part out and replace it with "will not be a problem"?

Just keeping everything inside: แค่เก็บทุกสิ่งไว้ในใจ

and not saying anything: แค่ไม่ต้องพูดออกไป

will not be a problem or a difficult thing to do : ก็ไม่เห็นจะเป็นอะไร

and will not make you die, : ไม่ได้ตายตรงไหน

it will just make you feel a little constrained. : ก็แค่ "อึดอัด"

For the second sentence I propose this:

If you want I can be stupid in the eyes of other people, I can act like a (stupid)buffalo that doesn't hear, see or learn/know anything. That would that be OK for you, right?

Brilliant! I like it, but the subject changes from 'you' to 'I' doesn't it?

There is more than one way to skin a cat, I was trying to avoid all the padding, I suppose that means not translate every word.

ปิดหูปิดตาและไม่ยอมรับรู้อะไร I have just said; don't listen to their stories; I was thinking of a context for the first sentence I think.

What is the best policy? Is it to translate as closely to the original and let the reader decide or make the decision for them?

It seems quite difficult to translate thai. In order to answer your question, both options would be the best IMO. But i am on the receiving end, so.....

Anyway thanks guys for your efforts.

yeah, It's difficult.

I think your translation of the second sentence was just fine.

Just wanted to give an alternative, with subjects in there, because I was not sure the thread starter would understand the sentence without subjects.

Also, In the first sentence I agree it's again impossible to say if the first part of sentence is about the person that wrote it, so "I", or somebody else - so "you". I just wanted to say I didn't see anything in there about "not acknowledging a problem". The ไม่เป็นไร in this sentence is a result, not a reason, at least, that's what I think.

It's very hard to translate Thai without a context.

It was posted on fb without a context. Thais would know the exact meaning ?

In that case you can fill in any subject. It's just a general statement.

I think that I agree with you, the first part is the speaker's advice after ก็ his opinion on how easy that would be, whereas I received it all as advice: Just by keep everything to yourself and by saying nothing the result will be that you are not admitting that there is a problem, there will be minimal affect on you.

Either way though, perhaps ไม่ได้ตายตรงไหน. applies.
