A visiting friend was bitten by a soi dog and it's from a pack of about 8 dogs nearby. I know Ubon has someone from a gov't office that takes care of this but I can't remember the name of it. I'll ask neighbors.

I'd go back with "treats" laced with rat poison. This ignorant and irresponsible behavior of Thais are the real culprit. Even in the village we live in there are packs of "wild dogs." I learned a/b the rat poison from them. People here have dogs but don't want to be responsible for them etc., but want them around to protect their meager possessions. Oh and then there's the incessant barking. I've had dogs most of my life... not I feel like I hate them.

Why don't you try some rat poison your self and if that doesn't work get a bus ticket and go home.

BB guns are legal from what the store in Sri Racha tells me and they openly sell them advertising them from a window in front of the shop. My biggest concern with carrying a replica pistol or assault rifle would be the BIB mistaking you for a dangerous gun wielding farang and shooting first and asking questions later. I expect one of these would even scare a pit bull away as they do deliver a 6mm pellet or BB at 370-405fps and are fully automatic with a 250 round magazine.

Check this one out: http://www.airsoftmegastore.com/4116-ak47-beta-krinkov-aeg-rifle-newest-enhanced-version-jg-0510mg-a47b.aspx

feral dogs are more dangerous than home owned dogs. its not a 'wolf pack' behavior that they have and there is no one alpha male.

they are loose packs of dogs that join together and separate as needed. the mistake u made was to take on the lead dog. these kind of packs are very dangerous as they have no innate fear of people but behave as dogs. in israel in our area we have several loose organized packs and people have been bitten although not torn to pieces... they roam large amounts of territory and are more likely to attack an aggressor then someone just passing through... howver, i do have one friend that missed a friends wedding because he walked from his village to ours and got treed at night by said pack... and he is used to working with large and small animals (dogs horses goats etc).

vinagar and water will not work.

very possibly, as someone here once suggested, a bag of meat thrown in opposite direction would make a good diversion, but frankly, i would change routes. the dogs dont search for people but probably use certain paths and routes routinely.

fire btw is a great 'get rid of large animal' deterant.

running, loud movement makes things worse. dont know 'what i was tuaght' who taught you but i work with dogs and would never ever act in that manner when facing an aggressing dog. i would act submissive, quiet, and search for a way to get out of there by a different path, while maintaining normal breathing patterns, hand movement patterns (close to lower part of body, quiet, yawning works well, as, unlike primates, yawing shows stress/submission. )

loud yelling just sounds to an aggessive dog like an equally aggressive dog barking back.

remember also that getting rid of a few of the less aggressive threatenting dogs reduces the behavior of the aggressor, and also remember, that dogs can be unpredictable so that no matter what u do it might make things worse. sometimes climbing a tree si the best trick.
