August 13, 201312 yr Touchscreen on HTC Desire Z (qwerty) stopped. No soft reboot helps (taking the battery out) I understand that touchscreen are replaceable. Q= can the glass be cut to size? Because my model is not available in Thailand and therefore no spare parts either. To whom to go?
August 13, 201312 yr If it's anything like the iphone, there is a little more than the glass that has to be replaced. There is another piece called the digitizer which sits just behind the glass and actually reads the touches/swipes. Take it to one of the phone shops in the airport plaza or KSK. FYI, if you are little more handy, you can order the glass/digitizer for a few hundred baht and do it yourself.
August 13, 201312 yr It may not be the screen; you replace the screen when it cracks, but if it just stops working it could be anything. So do take it to the 3rd floor Airport Plaza (newest wing) and let them have a look at it; it could be an easy repair without the need to change screens. If it's NOT an easy fix then it's probably time to realize that the device is a three year old design, and that spending even as little as 1000 baht is probably a similar amount to what the thing is worth. BTW, I think they did sell this one in Thailand, back in the day. Edited August 13, 201312 yr by WinnieTheKhwai
August 13, 201312 yr Author you are right, it is 3 years old but wonderfully solid and the Qwerty! I go bananas if I have to retype again and again on the glas because of the many near misses by actually not so fat fingers, may be more a problem of steadiness. HTC keyboard is a bit unresponsive but the screen, camera everything is just fine. Any other Qwerty fans? NO BBR please,
