PHUKET: -- Almost half a kilo of crystal methamphetamine (ya ice) along with three pistols and more than 100 rounds of ammunition were seized yesterday (August 13) when two men were arrested in Phuket Town.

Posing as buyers, Kathu District Chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol and plainclothes police first visited the home of Sunti “Ake” Noopum, 31, in Soi Yindeesanit, Songkhla Rd (not far from Tesco-Lotus bypass).

Realising the buy was a police trap, Sunti made a run for it but officers cornered him and seized 10.04 grams of ya ice and a .357 calibre revolver with six bullets.

During questioning Ake revealed that he had bought the drugs from Anas “Nat” Thongma, 23, living in Moo 3, Rassada. The team searched his place and found 480g of ya ice in plastic bags stowed in a cupboard. They also found two pistols – a .38 revolver with 50 bullets and a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol also with 50 bullets.

Vice Governor Jamroen Thippayapongthada said in a press conference in the evening that interrogation of Anas revealed he had bought the ice from an inmate of Nakorn Sri Thammarat Prison to sell to street dealers in the area. Anas said he had bought the guns and ammunition over the internet.

“We will cooperate with the relevant officials to get more information on the network in Nakorn Sri Thammarat and its links in the Phuket area,” V/Gov Jamroen said.

A couple of things here. What did the Vice Gov do to assist with the arrest apart from being readily available for a photo shoot? Not sure I have ever seen him actively campaigning against drugs & the violent people involved. Is it really that easy to buy guns over the internet or is he just full of sh....t? Buying the drugs from a prisoner! Surely he did not just walk into the jail, hand over the money & receive the drugs? If buying from an inmate then there must have been a connection on the outside.

The police seem pretty adept at getting confessions for many crimes but never seem to be able to extract names of drug kingpins from the low level dealers they usually parade in front of the cameras.

Glad the police have now got them !

Except that "Anas revealed he had bought the ice from an inmate of Nakorn Sri Thammarat Prison"

So prison time isn't going to stop these people from continuing to do deals?

And besides ........... arrest 2 nobodies, so what. For every arrest, there are 100 people selling this stuff for years without ever getting arrested. Too much profit to stop. Its just risk / reward. Governments all over the world are pretty powerless. Thailand is supposedly "hard on drugs" yet the number of young people here that do yaa baa / ice regularly is astonishing.

Solution. There ain't one.

' Buying the drugs from a prisoner!"

The drugs obviously are not shipped out from the jail, [they have enough trouble getting them in for ''jail business', ] but yes of course they do buy indirectly from known dealers who are incarcerated at the time...a huge amount of drug transactions are organised from the inside world wide.

I'm shocked! w00t.gif With all the articles from "The Nation", "Phuket News" and other links posted here recently about how "clean" they were going to make it in very short time frames I thought it must be totally Utopia already?!

Quick let's give them a warning and have our photos taken. laugh.png
