Pregnancy/birth Visa

Featured Replies

Hi there,

My girlfriend and I are both British and living in Chiang Mai doing visa runs every 30 days.

My girlfriend is now pregnant and we plan to have the child in Thailand, Somebody mentioned that there were special longer term visas available for people coming to Thailand to have children (in flash Bangkok hospitals etc). Does anybody know anything about this? Maybe I can save a few trips to the border?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Cheers,

Steve

Nice link vinny.. however the OP wasn't asking if she HAD to have a special visa when pregnant, but rather if there was a special visa available for pregnant women so they could stay longer than the 30days at a time.

My advice to the OP would be to take a trip outside Thailand to a Thai embassy/consulate and get a tourist visa. This will then give you 60 days and you will also be able to extend that for a further 30 days at immigration in CM

totster :o

There is a visa, Non-Immigrit Category "O", a person can get if they are receiving health care in Thailand. MEDICAL TREATMENT (requiring letter from licensed doctor). (Maximum stay 90 days, extension of stay may be applied in Thailand.)

I don't know if having a baby is covered under this.

According to the link, there was no special visa available for pregnant women. They have to follow the normal visa procedure.

There are no special procedures for pregnant women. Your sister can follow the normal entry procedure.

However, she could also try richard10365's suggestion and apply under the medical treatment category. A hospital, the Foreign Ministry or Immigration may be able to advise better.
