NATIONAL RECONCILIATION
'No payment to Blair'
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former British prime minister Tony Blair has not been paid to take part in Thailand's political reform forum, according to his spokesman.

The UK-based Guardian reported yesterday that an unnamed spokesman for Blair said he was delighted to accept the Thai government's invitation to the forum "in support of the Thai government's ongoing peace and reconciliation initiatives".

"Tony Blair is very happy to help in whatever way he can. This is being done on an entirely pro bono basis; there is no fee and there never was," the spokesman was quoted as saying.

Thai government figures earlier denied media reports that the ex-UK premier was paid Bt20 million to contribute to the reform forum proposed recently by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

The initial denial said there would be accommodation and expenses but no fee for taking part in the actual forum which with his track record is impossible to believe.

What i am waiting for is the truth of come out accidentally as Thai officialdom loves to be seen involved in the action and they can't keep their mouths shut.

I thought Thaksin had reassigned that culprit Edited by Noistar

Someone seems to have just realized that when TB gets a load of money and then publicly supports the Thaksin Amnesty Bill or praises the Yingluck Government it might not sound very convincing. So they pay his wife instead and claim TB doesn't get a single Baht.

I'm kinda dissapointed he got reassigned. He was good for at least one laugh a day.

It will be very interesting to hear him speak after his involvement. What people perceive his faults to be, jumping blind-folded isn't one of them -IMHO.

If he is making a contribution, presumably he's aware of the facts as well as the rhetoric.

Payment or not, his presence, while a coup (if I can use that word) for this government, could be a double-edged sword.

Who was is the spokesman why hasn't his name been made available to the press?

Yet another twist in the web of deceit Blair and the P.T.P, are spinning to entrap and then consume Thailand and its people to ensure total mastery over all

One thing is certain, once dear Yingluck completes her tenure as "PM" she will not be making any money on the lecture circuit as other ex-politians do, unless of course its a lecture on how to avoid the roles and responsibiltes of a PM

Yup......no payment......

Just the same way as Peter Foster didn't buy the flats for Cherie Blair.......

This family is amoral, there is no principle that they are not prepared to break.

He's got the fake sincerity act down pat, he's the best in the World at it

They said Peter Foster was a con man, he couldn't hold a candle to Blair.

Maybe Yingluck offered Cherie a couple of thousand tons of finest Thai rice or an imported sports car ?

Shopping correspondent for Vogue magazine? I'm surprised that she hasn't been labelled as the new Imelda Marcos yet.

Govt to organize special seminar on September 2

BANGKOK, 18 August 2013 (NNT) – The government is set to organize a special seminar to find unity and peace among Thais. 11 guest speakers from foreign countries will be sharing their experiences in the seminar.

During the “PM Yingluck Meets the People” program, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul mentioned about the special seminar scheduled for September 2nd, saying the government has sent an invitation to 11 reconciliation specialists from foreign countries to be guest speakers at the seminar. As of now, 3 of them have accepted the invitation, including former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Finland President Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari, and Priscilla Hayner, co-founder of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ).

He said the other 8 individuals including former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan have yet to accept the invitation, but the minister expects the rest to join the second and the third seminar.

Minister Surapong also denied the criticism that says the government is spending a lot of money to organize this event.

This is being done on an entirely pro bono basis

so his Tonyness is covering all his own flights, accomadation, and "other" considerations in Thailand out of the goodness of his heart ?....BS

classic case of spin doctoring me thinks...there may be no "official fee" but he will be getting his pond of flesh in one way or another

Yes, I heard they are paying him with rice!

He'll probably do a 'Rodney King' thing: "can't we all just get along?" ....though with many minutes of embellishments, as befits British upper class commentaries.

Hey, Ms Yingluck, I'll attend your meeting 'pro bono.' You just pay my 1st class r-t airfare, give me a grand tour around town, put me up a deluxe hotel (with chamber maids nattily dressed), all meals sumptuous & extravagant (no msg, please), a chauffeur (with pink Bentley?) and a couple of oil massages thrown in for good measure, ......sure, I'll do it 'pro bono'

If any of you all (including "likees") could be bothered to find out some background on this you could have read the entire Guardian article before braying away, and read this

But the foreign ministry has said the state is only paying for travel, accommodation, security and reception expenses of those invited – in addition to any organisational or public relations fees.............. A spokesman for Blair said the former prime minister was delighted to accept an invitation to a forum "in support of the Thai government's ongoing peace and reconciliation initiatives. This is an important time for Thailand's economic, social and democratic development and Tony Blair is very happy to help in whatever way he can.

There is absolutley no way that His Smugness will turn up without being paid. Read between the lines, that the Thai governemnt is not paying him - but maybe his other fellow liar in Dubai might be directing some "travel expenses" his way.

Just what Thailand needs - advice from war criminal who destroyed not only Iraq but the UK economy as well while filling his own pockets.

Agreed, I'd imagine there are a fair few people living in Thailand these days, who left the UK percisely because of this imbecile and his repulsive wife. Next up, Gordon Brown will be over, giving advice on the rice pledging scheme.
