Privy Council President calls for people’s sacrifice for positive developments of national problems

President of the Privy Council General Prem Tinsulanond has once again called on Thais to sacrifice in conjuction with the Songkran Festival in order to bring positive developments to national problems.

Speaking upon his advance voting for the senatorial election at a booth near his residence, General Prem urged the Thai people to turn to each other so that various problems would be tackled. He implicitly mentioned that he wished people would make some sacrifices on this joyous occasion for the sake of the nation.

He indicated that the country is now in great need of unity, and that he did not mean a specific person or a specific party when he last called for unity and joint solutions. He said he referred to people in the whole nation who should be united.

Asked about the direction of politics, General Prem said public participation would be essential, but it would be improper if he made political comments which should also be too long. He said he was not in the position to predict future political situation.

And on the Songkran occasion, General Prem wished Thais to live happily and in peace.

Prem urges all citizens to strive for harmony

Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda yesterday called on all Thais to join in the spirit of Songkran to rise above political ill will.

"We should use our Songkran tradition as an occasion when everyone turns to each other. Help to think through and solve the country's problems and bring peace not only to Bangkok and major cities but also rural areas,'' he said.

After voting in Bangkok's Dusit district during the advance polling for the Senate, Prem preached love and unity and wished all Thais a long life.

"I am not pinpointing any particular person but everybody should take part in making sacrifices. Please remember that the country needs everyone to love, unite and compromise for the public interest," he said.

"It's time everyone ends the ongoing problems with love and togetherness for the sake of the public's well-being,'' he said.
