VIENTIANE, 19 August 2013: The Lao government is tightening the screws on its tourism law to improve safety for visitors and protect historical sites.

The amendments to the tourism law will place travel security in the hands of local authorities, while public health and noise restrictions on entertainment near communities will be tightened.

National Assembly members considered an amended draft to its tourism law late last month.

So can you still get arrested for sleeping with a Lao national? Being as it's now the 21st century, I would've thought that'd be the first law to go...

You can sleep with a Lao national you just must pay a huge fine or marry her. Think of it as just a very expensive bar fine. If you sleep with a Lao man you have nothing to worry about.
