I live in the Democratic Kingdom of Pattani. Here are some of the advantages.

Food

Food here in Pattani just goes off the radar. It's way better than anything you can get in Thailand.

Women

Some of the women in Pattani have to be seen to be believed.

Dogs

Muslims don't keep dogs. Muslims regard dogs as dirty or unclean. This means that there are very few dogs in Pattani.

In practical terms, you won't get woken up at all hours of the day by dogs barking. And the likelihood of you treading in "something" is significantly reduced.

Personal safety

Pattani is safer than you may think. The killings (and it must be stated that these are near daily events) are targeted. They're aimed at teachers and the security forces.

But farangs are pretty much left alone. The absence of a tourist industry ensures that you'll never get ripped off or mugged.

'Food better than anything in Thailand ?'. Last time I checked, your Muslim state of Pattani lies within Thailand's borders. Penang, on the other hand, does not. Historically, this was not always the case, but you'll have to run that by the relevant Sultans and government ministers.

This beach is about a mile from my house. I've been in Pattani for two years but I've never been to this beach. It's all to do with the way in which different zones are color-coded according to their safety.

Well where I live, there's no extremist killings at all, we all get along. Teachers are loved unlike your home town.

Food is from around the world and always fresh.

Dogs don't wander the streets either because owners put them in the backyard .

Work everywhere, not uncommon to earn 4 million baht a year. My wife and myself earn around that.

Where I live is far better than Pattani by your description Pattani sounds awful.

The biggest advantage is that i don't live near muslims or people who dislike dogs.

I agree. The Iranians (Persians) are a whole different culture. They aren't Arab and they would love to be free. They love everything Western from clothes to music to food. They would like to be like us.

I think Iran, if freed from its dictators, would have the best chance in all of the area of forming a true and good democracy. As it is, when they protest, they are shot down in the streets.
