Changing non O visa of dependents to new school

Featured Replies

Hello

I was on a Non B 'Ed' visa while studying in a university in Chiang Mai. My dependents (wife and son) were on Non O visas under me. I recently finished my study and started teaching. I went though the whole transition process - left the country, got a new non B visa, got a work permit and then one-year extension all under my new school. My wife and son are still on their original Non O. My question... do they need to leave the country and get new Non O visas or can we just go to immigration and have them switched over/extended under my new visa?

Hope that makes sense.

Really appreciate any help you can give

A non immigrant O visa is only 90 days stay. Did your dependents have a multi entry visa; obtain new visas; or did they obtain a matching extension on basis of yours? If they did that it ended the day your original extension ended.

They had a matching extension on the basis of my visa, still valid until January 2014. I left the country and therefore cancelled my Non B 'Ed' visa three months ago but didn't take wife and son along. So I guess this means they need to leave the country and get another Non O on the basis of my new visa?

Thanks

Your wife and child have been overstay since your extension was cancelled. Your wife is liable for a fine of 500 baht per day up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. Child if under 15 is exempt from the fine.

If they depart the country they could be stopped for the overstay if immigration cancelled their extensions and entered it in computer records when yours was cancelled.

They probably could go to immigration pay wife's fine and get new extension based upon your new extension.

Wow, bad news. I had no idea they were overstaying.
