The Immigration Bureau were able to arrest a suspect who had illegally faked passports as well as fake visa slips.

BANGKOK – August 26, 2013 [PDN]; At the HQ of the Immigration Bureau various high-profile police officers announced the arrest of 55 year-old Paiboon Sriwatchararot, who was arrested for faking Spanish and French passports as well as Canadian, Indian and Indonesian visa slips. He was arrested at a food stall in Bangkok.

Mr. Paiboon was arrested as soon as he was suspected to have faked several passports and visas. During the arrest, police were able to seize the fake passports and visas that he reportedly made himself.

The fake passports were sold for 2,000 THB each while the visas were sold for 1,000 THB per slip. He was under the Immigration Bureau’s radar since 2006.

Initially, he was charged for making and selling fake traveling documents. He will be further questioned by the Immigration Bureau.

yeah maybe the give away was "passport" was spelt "papport"...or maybe he just put "Farang passport" on the front cover...

Based on some of the English spelling of signs, menus etc in Thailand, would you trust a Thai forger to make you one in English ?, let alone, french or spanish...whistling.gif

Perhaps the Immigration police kept him on thier radar so they could nab some people who were using the fakes, until he sold a fake passport to someone who was wanted for terrorist activities, or the police were told to pull thier fingers out and take him out of circulation after he failed to make his friendship payment on time.

Re-reading this, I dont think this means immigration has known about him since 2006, think its just a piece of sloppy translation or writing...the jouro has used the idiom "working under the radar" incorrectly, ie he has been doing this without getting caught by immigration since 2006

Fool. Clever people never leave traces behind. There should be an extra vigilant and sharp mind to do a crime. However its better to use that mind for the betterment of mankind instead of making crap money.

"On the Thai immigration radar since 2006." However, the minister was quick to report when the racket broke days ago - "No THais involved."

Not long ago, a Brit Journalist bought cheap fakes in England, then traveled to Italy on real documents and was successful returning to England with the fakes. According to the article, the fakes in no way resembled originals.

But even with everything spelt wrong do you you think the police would know, I don't think they could even spell their own names in English!!

Surprising he got caught as his work was convincing as seen in the photo:

You can see this guy face he was not the only one, he can't even speak English.

OMG! A Thai in a photo arrested, admittedly no finger pointing. Guy with mic is announcing name of the next person in line to collect their new pappor.

"Under the radar..." means undetected. So the authorities have been keeping track of exactly how long they have failed to detect him?

If you're under the radar you can't be seen; you have to be on the radar to be visible. perhaps that's why it took so long!

Or maybe it's crap reporting!!
