1111 clowns

Featured Replies

Anyone ever got useful information from these guys? I just called the number to inquire whether immigration officers would put my visa extension and re-entry permit stamps on half empty pages. I was advised that the immigration office would issue me a new passport. <deleted>?

Referring to people as "clowns" is guaranteed to produce a funny outcome.

What made you think that the helpline 1111 would know the answer to that question?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Wild stab in the dark I suppose but last time I called them they spoke to an immigration officer and then got back to me. Anyone who think a British passport can be issued by Thai immigration should not be working for a government helpline.

Next time try an Indian call centre ( a very popular source of information in the UK !)smile.png

If you live at Phuket you can call or email the Phuket Immigration Volunteers.

They normally know all the requirements for Phuket Immigration and for sure give you more sensible information then what you received.

send me a PM if you want to have the number or email address. smile.png

Bit of a silly question anyway.

The visa and re-entry don't take much space as long as your passport has validity.

I guess things were lost in translation and they were trying their best to say they would transfer your visa to a new passport? smile.png

Nothing was lost in translation. I went over it several times and got him to confirm what his advice was. Not a silly question as my passport has no blank pages left.

I would take it as an attempt to advise you to get a new passport and then then can place the stamps into that as best they can say sight unseen.

I called 1111 once. Got someone that spoke perfect English. I asked the question and she said she would have to check and would call me back.. I figured that that was the end and didn't expect a return call. About 20 minutes Later she called back with the answer. A pleasant surprise and experience. Don't remember what the question was.

Trust me, this was not the advice. The guy really did believe that a UK citizen could get a new passport from Thai immigration. I also initially thought it must just be a slip of the tongue or something but he confirmed the advice several times.

If your passport has no blank pages it's time to spend 9k baht on a new one.

Awesome advice. It's not quite that simple as I'm going to travel in just over a month and it takes at least four weeks (sometimes much longer) to get a new UK passport from Hong Kong.

Calling 1111 is not the answer. The only person that has control of where the stamps are put is the officer that you deal with when you do your extension and get your re-entry permit. You will have to coordinate with that person to use the available space . The officer that I deal with in Nakhon Sawan immigration goes to extremes to insure that she uses "space available" and not waste pages. I recently got a new passport and she transferred the required info from the old passport and gave me a new 1 year extension using only 2 very busy pages.

Pity we can't, bearing in mind the bloody performance with HK we Brits have to go through in the event.

1 post containing illegal advise that cna lend the OP in serious trouble, and a reply to it, removed.

Not to be disrespectable.

The question I have is how long have you known you had no empty pages?

I have read so many topics and posts about running out of pages or passports expiring and each one made me wonder how a person can allow themselves to get into this condition.

Some so bad that they ended up on overstay waiting for their new passport.

Immigration may put stamps where you have space for them. But they might wonder about the same thing as me.

The need to exit Thailand came sooner than expected.

I'm relying on Bangkok immigration being as helpful. I can't believe they would refuse to stamp my passport and create all sorts of problems.

The question of how long I've known? Obviously I've known I've had no empty pages since I have had no empty pages.

If there is room for the stamps I am sure the IO will use it -------If there is no room its a problem!smile.png

Life is tough, if you are stupid it's even tougher.

A famous old say that seems to fit this situation.

Despite the various more or less well-meant advices and posts to counter the OP's down-evaluation of the socalled helpline, the fact reains that the advice given by the staff at the helpline clearly indicates that consulting that said helpline is more dangerous than helpful and the advices are way far beyond anything that can be trusted to any extent what-so-ever.

While the advice: "the immigration office would issue me a new passport" is obviously wrong to about anyone - how about answers less obviously wrong? - Clearly the best advice to give anyone reading this thread is: Don't ever call 1111.
