PHUKET: -- A man humiliated by a slap on the head in front of a group of people stabbed his assailant four times, sending him to the hospital.

The event transpired after an evening of drinking at a Burmese workers’ camp behind Phuket Simon Cabaret in Patong (map here).

After work yesterday evening, a 30-year-old man known as “Rambo” got together to drink with his friends, said Patong Police Deputy Superintendent Nikorn Choothong.

Hours later, when they were all drunk, a co-worker named Nai, 32, walked by.

“Rambo aggressively ordered him to buy them some lao khao [rice whisky],” said Lt Col Nikorn.

“When Mr Nai refused, Rambo humiliated him by slapping him on the head in front of his friends and co-workers,” he said.

“Mr Nai walked away but came back a few minutes later with a pocket knife and stabbed Rambo – twice in the shoulder, once in the hand, and once in the stomach,” he said.

Rambo was taken to Patong Hospital. Mr Nai fled the scene and is still at large.

At last report, Rambo had been transferred to the better-quipped Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town, where he is still recovering from his injuries.

So the Burmese can be just as bats#$% crazy as the Thais. As long as they keep it among themselves and leave the tourists alone...

I think the accurate characterization is that one drunk can be as batcrap crazy as another.

Seems I was just reading about a white colored drunk stealing a knife from a 7-11 to come back and stab another white colored guy.

Not a Thai or Burmese in the equation.

Story did have at least one drunk, though.

I wonder if these Burmese workers will now be compelled to have insurance when they come into the come across the border as they are proposing for farangs. Will this incident go on the statistics of a falang being treated in hospital without insurance and at a huge cost to the health system?. Of course I'm making an assumption that Rambo was not insured.

Why is this news? Similar incidents happen amongst drunk Thais and Burmese alike on a daily basis all over Thailand... Both ethnics are equally violent and short-fused when alcohol comes into play... coffee1.gif

At the end of the day, it appears like Rambo got what he was asking for.

It appears "Rambo" must learn some manners if he wishes to survive the camp. Hope he does not plan retribution for the sequel. But hey, what happens in the camp stays in the camp.........................................

"Similar incidents happen amongst drunk Thais and Burmese alike". Did you forget the expat westerners? From what I read on TV about Phuket and Pattaya many of them act the same when drunk!
