A blasted snake identification thread.... Again

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I was out on my mountain bike yesterday and bumped into this short but fat snake, dead on arrival.

Any thoughts??

The missus says poisonous.

I am clueless :-D

I seen 4 snakes on my travels yesterday, very rarely see any.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks chaps and chapesses :D

I don't know how long it had been there but it was about 5pm when I seen it, how long it had been there is an unknown :D

Hmm rather poisonous, well you learn something new, steering clear from now on.

Thanks

:D

Not 'rather'...believe it is in the top 2 with the malay pit viper and possibly the viper is top of the list because it does not run away from you, it curls up and hides.

We had a banded krait outside our house the other week.

We get green vipers all the time, one at back door the other day.

I work on the theory that all might be venomous unless I positively know that it is a non-venomous type, we get a lot of Chequered Keel-backs that I'm happy to catch, relocate and release.

Dangerous venomous snakes are relocated in the food chain to sustain ants etc.

Don't forget that some snakes will spray their venom in a pattern designed to blind and disable what it considers a threat

The venom sprays out in distinctive geometric patterns, using muscular contractions upon the venom glands....

Poisonous means that you will become ill if you eat it.
