Your 5 year DL is in English, and valid to drive in Holland. No IDP required.

Ok but if he really wants to get one, its around thb 500, copy of your pp, copy of your 5 year DL and a couple of photo,s in and out in 15 minutes, at mochit traffic dept

The one thing I would check however, do you have a current Dutch license .? Reason I say this some countries will not let you drive on another license if you have a current DL from that country ie the Dutch BiB may be a bit peeved if they pull you over, you give them a Thai DL and you already have a valid Dutch license and they find out

Mochit is the only place I have used, believe Rayong do it, and I am sure there are others, Pattaya BTW don't do them they send them to BKK

Interesting, I don't think you can drive on a abroad license, even with IDP, if you already have a home license. Would be too easy to get out under fines etc.

Exactly... I know PC Plod in the Uk get very upset some presents an overseas license to them and then they find out the person also has a valid UK license

Actually a 5 year Thai Driver licence isnt valid in the Netherlands, i did do some checks about it a couple of months ago. Decided after all on my trip to not drive at all. With a IDL which you can get a the Landoffice its possible to rent a car and as well of course to drive a car in the Netherlands.

Have a source for the information it is not valid?

I believe i found it on www.cbr.nl, not exactly sure about it anymore but i am almost 100% sure about a 5 year Thai Driver Licence isnt valid as Thailand isnt on the list with countries which driver licences are valid in the Netherlands.

It is not on the list of countries from where a DL can be exchanged for a Dutch DL, but it is valid for driving up to 185 days. See e.g. this information from the RDW. No IDP required.

thanks to all for your searches and reply

greets soon from a bit cccccolder (but with a nice real beer in my hand )
