Popular Post webfact Posted September 9, 2013 Popular Post Share Posted September 9, 2013 Bangkok on mission to clear footpathsThe NationFootpaths have become the parking stations of some motorcycle taxi groups.BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration last week removed 3,118 unlicensed ad banners installed near bus stops and on footpaths, as part of its plan to restore the order of footpaths across the capital city.Legal actions will be taken against the owners, for causing damage to public properties - trees and footpaths. Civil lawsuits will also be launched, said BMA spokesperson Tridao Apaiwong.The consensus reached at the city council’s meeting on Monday is to remove unlicensed banners and phone booths. The motorcycle taxi stations will also be re-arranged.Tridao said that the transport office has awarded permission to over 8,000 ad banners. The office is now working on the mapping and district offices will check if the banners are located accordingly to the mapping."BMA also considers to lower the number of banners," she said.On motorcycle taxi, there will be a discussion with the Transport Ministry’s Transport Department over the parking stations. At present, many of them use footpaths as the parking stations though this is illegal. The worst is the banners in places so that it obstructs your view when driving and trying to turn left or right. That's why so many people creep across the road and block the traffic. Maybe, though, this ties in with lowering the price of luxury goods. As we won't be able to buy the copies anymore, we'll all rush to buy the still over-priced, unneeded, originals. About 100 cops, some massive trucks and a load of cleaning people hit Khoa San Road this afternoon... removed ALL the roadside stalls - I've never seen khao san like that (as opposed to normal monday afternoon cleanups) I've never actually been able to see the road/footpath or the shophouse entries on Khoa San before! 8 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I saw something about 65k hookers in Pattaya, so wouldn't be suprised if there were 200k taxi drivers in Bangkok. Theres 5 or 6 on every street corner. The only Thais that seem to get off their butt to do anything are Lumpini park homeless "protestors" and parking attendants with a whistle. These are the only relentless Thais I see in our society.
