Turned my pc on this morning and no icons. Could someone please tell me how to get them back.

Which Windows version are you using?

You could try simply re-booting.

I am using Windows 7, re-booting didn't help.

How about trying system restore from control panel?

Thank you Edwinchester System restore worked.

Next time that happens you can try this (Win 7) :

Right click desktop

Click View

Uncheck Show desktop icons

and then

Right click desktop

Click View

Check Show desktop icons

This works for me when my Gadgets fail to load on boot up (then I uncheck/check Show desktop gadgets)

1/ you have lost your desk top iconsok should be simple fix: click on the start button, bottom right of screen, click on control panel, go to back up and restore. from there you can do a system restore.

2/ do the same, go to and click on recovery. you should be able to work it out from there.
