Timing for Visa extension

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm currently staying in Thailand on a double-entry 60 day tourist visa. I'm planning on staying in Thailand for a total of six months which involves extending the visa for 30 days, doing a border-run after the extension runs out and then extending the visa for another 30 days after I return.

My question is; does the extension add an additional 30 days to the 60 days I already have? Or is it 30 days from the point where I get it extended. If I get the extension 10 days in do I end up with a total of 40 days or will I have 90 days regardless of the date I choose to extend my visa?

Also, just to double-check, is Bangkok the only place where I can extend my visa?

Thanks everyone.

Extension is from permitted stay so best to do a week early as you lose nothing. You can use any immigration office if that is where you are staying.

Extension starts at end of the 60 day entry. You loose nothing by doing extension early.

doing a border-run after the extension runs out and then extending the visa for another 30 days after I return.

Keep an eye on the date the visa expires or must-be-used-by date. If you stay in the country the full 60 + 30 days before doing the border crossing, it's possible the visa will no longer be valid for the second entry.
