colinthailand20005
Hi, I am exploring the possibility of living in Ireland, and exercising my EU treaty rights to bring my Thai wife to Ireland. My understanding of this type of visa is that it is free and requires only my residence in Ireland and being married? Is this correct? Thanks
chaoclive
You have to be exercising EU Treaty Rights. See these: eumovement.wordpress.com/category/directive-200438ec http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Economic_Area_Family_Permit http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/eucitizens/eea-family-permit/
beano2274
I have done something similar but brought my wife to another European country, you need to have your marriage certificate translated and also officially stamped at the MFA, I got mine stamped at the British Embassy as well. She will need a copy of your passport. You might find that she will be charged a handling fee for the documents. I am just about to go a bit further, as I have registered my wife in the country am living in, the next part is the Residence Permit, which requires proof of Registration here, passport, a photo, my passport, my registration document and also proof that I work and she and I will not try to get money from the Social. If we stay here for 2 years we do not need all the stupid documents that the British Embassy normally ask for when you go to apply for a Spouse Visa for settlement in the UK.
