Just read the string about a nice man who saved some pups whose mother died during birth. How nice of him. But really, why bother?

When we moved to Thailand we decided no more dogs, but now we have twelve. The latest, a tiny tiny puppy (thought it was a dead rat for ten minutes), staggered into our garden afew days ago, barely able to support its own weight, severely malnourished, alive with fleas and worms, and almost dead. Now the fleas have been painstakingly removed, she is eating and drinking, but what of the future?

When we moved here, a street dog who had been living on the building site adopted us. She had five pups. We homed two, and kept three, since we could not home them. During a night away from home the mother became pregnant again, this time seven pups. They are now 8 weeks old. They are adorable, but a dozen dogs is just too much. (Yes, she is scheduled for sterilisation).

I am trying to home them, and have put various adverts on T/Visa, but so far, only one person may possibly come to look at them.

It is very disheartening to those of us who are trying to help these poor creatures. My husband took more photographs today, and I will put these on the classifieds section, and hope that some kind Pattaya people will come forward.

The situation here is desperate, and people should realise that. This is the only 'foreign' country I have ever lived in which does not have a rescue centre with farang volunteers. Even in rural Mexico they had this basic assistance, run mostly by Americans.

It is unlike me to grumble or moan, but it is hard to know what to do for the best.

There are several rescue centres around the country which have been mentioned in other threads in this forum. Do a search for soi dogs and they will come up. From what I know, one of the biggest projects they work on is sterilizing stray dogs so they will not continue to have unwanted littlers. Obviously, the problem in Thailand is huge but there is several organisations out there trying to help (with both Thai and farang volunteers and workers).

there are quite a few rescues in thailand as sylvafern stated. if there's none in your area and you are dedicated and have some time on your hands why not start one? I hope you won't give your puppies to a shelter if you can't find homes for them... in the shelters dogs suffer as well, too many of them and most of them will never have a home... as your dog was pregnant you still could have had her operated in the first weeks... why not keep the litter

yes it is disheartening, i feel the same and that's why i ended up having 28 dogs and ten cats here. they are all rescues and were more dead than alive whn they came... cannot see them suffer, that is my weakness. they make me very happy though and this is my small contribution to help the dogsituation here.

my last newbie is pino (pinoccio as he was so thin), i saw him every day by the road on my way to work, each time he was worse. when i took him home he stayed 2 days in the bathroom only sleeping and eating and getting his medication etc. but then he recovered very quickly and now he's part of the bunch and an adorable lovely pup.

Hmm, I know how you feel. My ex-street cat became pregnant before we could spay her and although her four kittens took a little while to rehome, it was well worth looking at those sweet little faces every morning for two months! She was spayed as soon as it was possible afterwards! Try advertising at the international schools - takers for our kittens all came from the school community.

u can spay anytime except when in heat: up till the day they whelp... we did it to my bitch after she lept over my head and had a round with all the male kibbutz dogs.... she had seven fetuses and her uterus taken out... for a few weeks after she collected and mothered some socks and dolls but that finished... now a very young looking 9 yr old boxer...

Thanks for all the replies, particularly the Int'l Schools idea, had not thought of that. We did try to get the bitch sterilised --- it was on a trip to the vet to make sure she could stand up to it that the vet told us she was pregnant. He refused to do the sterilisation. So did every other vet in Pattaya. I suppose it was on religious grounds, I dont know.

So we did not have a choice as to whether to keep them or not, the vets made that choice for us, which I found quite astounding in itself.
