Was wondering if there was any interest in sharing .gpx track files of the trails we ride in Thailand. Checked into a few sites that provide sharing and only found one to really work, and it is a bit cumbersome at that. I see some good tracks on CMexpat's website, and it would be nice to be able to download them into our GPS units to help with navigation which can get sketchy if you don't have the actual waypoints.

At any rate, try this if you are interested. Go to this website and then find the download box in the lower right of the page. Downland the gpx TRACK (not route) and see if it works with Google Earth or your GPS. That file is for the Pony Canyon ride up here in Mae Taeng which is in perfect condition right now.

Thanks for that - it works fine using My Tracks which is what I use for saving & recording tracks (along with Strava). Not sure when I'll get up that way, although I'm contemplating entering the upcoming race in November (just for fun, hoping the course is more technical than gruelling) - will you be doing it?

Thanks for checking that out ogb! I'll keep posting them as I ride them. That race looks pretty cool but it doesn't seem to state the location. Guess I'll cruise the site a bit more for more info. Not planning on racing but I have been know to make a last second decision.

The beginning of that thread seems to refer to last years race which looks like it was located here http://www.strava.com/activities/24252848#

Perhaps you know the area and can recognise some landmarks in the pics?

I'm grateful that you, CM-Expat & others post routes because I'd get very lost without them (actually I usually still get lost with them, but at least I've got something to help me get back on track after I take all the wrong turns to dead ends smile.png

I am sharing my routes on bikemap.net. You will even find the pony trail there. In future, we will publish the highlights of the CM Mountain Biking group tours on http://chiangmaibiking.wordpress.com.

Cheers, CM-Expat

I didn't see a way to download the actual .gpx track. Did I miss something?

Not sure if you can download the track, but it does at least let you export the route (an option to 'export gps data' comes up on the right hand side of the screen after you click on the bicycle icon to view the route)

Yes, bikemap.net allows you to download the route as gpx file which you can inmport into Google Earth or your GPS device. Click on the route and on the page that opens, look for the satellite icon on the lower right. Not sure if you need an account to access this function.

Cheers, CM-Expat

That is a great collection of rides. I don't seem to be able to get any icons or ability to download a gpx file using FireFox and Mountain Lion on the site. You'll have to stop by some time and give it a go in case I am clicking on the wrong things. When I click on either map, I just get a bigger map with no surrounding text or icons.

Here's Heartbreak Ridge:

http://sharemyroutes.com/routes/Thailand/Mae-Taeng-Chiang-Mai/Heartbreak-Ridge/details.aspx

The entry point is quite overgrown for about 20 meters with bamboo but trail conditions are perfect right now. The southern-most area of this track is just laced with trails. Great area for birding, hiking, or of course, mountain biking. I'll attach an alternate entry .kmz waypoint that would be better for hikers.

Here is the actual race course http://www.strava.com/segments/5759172

Quite a nice course because the hills are short and lots of downhill sections
