Hello everyone...

I am looking in to the possibility of finding a job in Thailand. I have a background in chemistry and biology. At my current place of employment I've had experience working with water quality issues (sampling, lab analysis, surveying river banks, wetlands etc), also ambient air quality work (sampling for particulate matter, heavy metals and ground level ozone in ambient air, reviewing title V permits). I also have some background with environmental health issues and I am HAZMAT certified.

Does anyone know where I might look for possible jobs in Thailand?

I am looking at a number of possibilities here in the states and overseas, mainly working in the petroleum and mining industries.

Thanks,

Jamie

Maybe a big pharma company that is doing research around mosquitoes and the virus' they may be carrying. National Geographic had a show about that that aired while we were in Bangkok this month.

Thanks...

I'll have to look in to that. Any other responses/ideas are welcome.

Try the following sites. I just posted to another posting but in case you miss it:

Do what I did. Send in your resume, state what you are after and if they have anything, they'll contact you, or, they might invite you in for an interview so that they can get a better understanding of what you are after.

Good luck

tywais,

Great link. Thanks again.

I work in very big pharma and know the people running studies in two of the most common diseases we think of from Mozzies (Malaria and Dengue) and the work is way past the environmental (although other idustries/secotrs might be interested) and is now in phase 2 clinical trials for new vaccines.

Prakanong,

You are right....Although I have laboratory experience, it's geared towards water chemistry. Pharms are looking more for those with a microbiology/genetics type background I'm assuming.

Not necessarily - of course they often state life sciences degree or nursing background but I do know some without this background although the lab jobs are what you state and mostly in the west..

Asia Pacific is a major growth area for many Pharma's both due to the size of the market and the cost of conducting trals there is much cheaper than the USA or Western Europe.

I know the company I am at are looking for CRA's (Clinical Research Associates) in the region but i do not know which countries - you would have to have local language skills though.

Many of the jobs now are local contracts - I have a job offer for a regional IT job out in Singapore and its a lot less money than I am on now or the jobs I am being interviewed for in the UK and Switzerland over the next couple of weeks - it is still good by local standards and I have personal reasons (Thai wife) why the move may be OK for us as our standard of life will be high and if we have kids thats a big factor too.

In your area of expertise I would definately take a look at Singapore - there are large water projecys going on there at the moment and know of one english guy with his own consultancy as a water engineer working out of Singapore covering the region.

Whatever happens good luck with it and just persevere - if you had asked me 6 months ago was I on the cusp of moving back to Asia I would have given an emphatic no - a short time later a job comes out of the blue and I am show horned into it.

Do not give up - a regional job for a oil or mining company might give you a way to live in Thailand while working away for a few weeks at a time.

Good idea JD with NGO's

Further to my point above I believe someone with Thai, Vietnamese and English would stand a very good chance of getting a job with a major multi-national pharma I know if they also had a nursing or life sciences background!
