Mayor resigns to become a monk

Chiang Mai Mayor announces his resignation to take up the saffron robes at Wat Chedi Luang to honor and repay the kindness of his late uncle Pakorn Buranupakorn.

Chiang Mai Mayor Tussanai Buranupakorn announced his resignation on September 6, 2013 citing his intention to become a Buddhist monk to honor his late uncle, well known politician Pakorn Buranupakorn who passed away on September 1, 2013 of heart failure at the age of 55.

He noted that while he was resigning one month ahead of the end of his term, which would have expired on October 3, he explained that he felt he needed to repay the kindness and support of his uncle by becoming a monk at Wat Chedi Luang.

CityNews – On 24th September, the second day of the Chiang Mai Mayor application process, Wanlop Saetiaw, who is the owner of Tuk Seng Hong gold shop and president of Chiang Mai Sports Association, was named the 5th candidate for mayor. Number 6 went to Non Hiranchet, the Chiang Mai-Lamphun Real Estate Trade Association Secretary.

Chiang Mai Mayor Applicants Arrive at Municipality Office

Applications will take place at the old Municipality Office 23rd to 27th September, 8.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m. Election day is 3rd November.

Tadsanai Buranupakorn, the former Chiang Mai Mayor, who recently resigned to become a monk and a member of Chiang Mai Khunnatham Group, was first to apply.

i thought thie one was a bit young for a mayor !

english ones are usually 50s to 70s and

have been round the block / the world a

few times and have a reasonable education

I say it will be a tight race between the red shirt #3 and "Jah" #1. Both young, white-skinned, and rich. She looks stunning on her posters but you never know how much Photoshop work they do or how much make up these people have on. Just look at the PM who looks nothing in real life like her glamor photos. All that matters here is how you look so it should be tight. #3 does have the backing of the Rak Chiang Mai 51 red shirts though...

Yup, a google search of images does show #1 without make up on and you would never know it was the same person. You would not even look twice if you saw her pass you on the street.
