Terror charge against Thaksin dropped: 2010 political crisis

This is the complete problem that the Democrats created at the very beginning by tarring the actions as terrorism. it makes for a neat headline, it makes the USA sit up and pay attention for about 15 minutes, it gives the army some legitimacy to shoot people, but after the event, pinning it on the people to be terrorism is very difficult, because it was essentially a politically motivated domestic riot.

They should have charged him with lesser crimes that they knew they could have pinned on him, but no, they went with a slam dunk and missed.

I agree with you that the terrorism charges were OTT. We will have to wait & see if the charges are dropped - it's only an accusation by a Dem MP so far.

If they are dropped , will we see the same charges against Abhisit & Suthep dropped? With the mob in power double standards are part of their political methodology.

Maybe, but possibly not. As absurd as the charges against Abhisit and all, there is a massive political motivation to pursue them. Thaksin wants his pound of flesh from the Democrats.

The terrorism charges in general were just too much to have a chance of winning. Could you imagine the implication if it came to be that there was an active terrorist network running in the centre of Thailand. Yingluck would be the sister of a convicted terrorist? Come on please. He ran a phone company and funded a protest. Hardly terrorism by anyone's measure.

Just think about it? Half of the bloody insurance policies held by individuals and businesses would instanlty be voided. Everyone would actively have to avoid doing anything in Thailand. It was absolute legal nonsense to continue with terrorism charges. People would probably be barred by doing any business with anything to do with the Shinawatras', PTP or anyone else due to global anti-terrorism laws. An absoute farce to be honest. The Dems screwed up big time by labelling them terrorists.

And another organised step forward for Thaksin's Homecoming. And a clean charge sheet.

True, but also sets a precedent and allows any of his opponents to use heavily armed militias, bombs, RPG's, blood pouring, mass arson, threats clearly made to induce fear and confusion to achieve political aims without being punished. He might decide that he doesn't like what he has "won" after having completely destroyed it in the battle.

What I personally find perplexing is the fact that Thaksin has not returned of his own accord.

In his multi faceted mind sets he is the savior of the Thai people and innocent of any wrongdoing thus there is no need for a government whitewash cosmetic makeover.

Hundreds of thousands would be wherever Thaksin set foot on Thai soil upon his return to welcome him, a triumphant cavalcade of loyal fans to escort him to the seat of honour and ultimate power.

Come on Thaksin do come back A.S.A.P. Let us see you live your dream or is it that you are afraid your dream will become your living nightmare?

Perhaps though Thaksin's supporters do not want him back having tasted from the dish of corruption set upon the table, having partaken of the 30 pieces of silver for their services and still doing so. Perhaps the families of the luckless Red Shirt pawns still incarcerated and a multitude of somewhat disillusioned red Shirts may now have seen through the facade of Red Shirted leadership and are not to be relied upon or even trusted to rally to the cause having been duped before.

Or truth is perhaps Thaksin is afraid to return, many an enemy in many a camp, perhaps this whole scenario is being played out slowly so as to delay or forestall any unfortunate incidents that may befall Thaksin, his family and their brown nosing acolytes upon his often promised return to Thailand and of course to safeguard the addiction that a number of political, military police and (un) civil servants figures have for power and income too!!.

Playing power games becomes a veritable tangle of friends and foes, in that tangle one is not sure who is who, what is what, and what and who is to be trusted.
