WWII Japanese Zero in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Trying to help a buddy do some research on Mitsubishi Zeros that were used in the region during WWII. I have a recollection that I saw a show on television recently which featured a chap in Chiang Mai who had one in a modest hanger - I think he'd been renovating it. Does anyone know of this or someone in Thailand knowledgeable on the Zero?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

There is an aircraft Museum on the airforce base at Chiangmai airport. Tango Squadron. It has many old planes in vairied conditions. It is open by arangement. http://siampanda.wordpress.com/2008/11/26/tango-squadron-wing-41-museum-chiang-mai-thailand-photo-gallery/ may interest you

Brilliant - many thanks Harry. And there she is - but I was mistaken in thinking it was a Zero as it's the Nakajima 'Kate'. Thanks for your help - much appreciated!

The thai airforce has a museum at Don Meung airport but I am not sure whether or not they have a zero. May be worth finding their website and checking. Even if they don't have one, maybe the curator could point you in the right direction.

Sadly there is no Kate, Zero or Oscat in the RTAF museum at Don Mueang.

The only complete Japanese aircraft they have is a Tachikawa Ki-37 and that is prewar and ex RTAF.

Yes I had already checked out the RTAF museum at Don Mueang and spoke to a chap there who laughed at me..well, almost laughed. I think he said there were only around half a dozen left world-wide in private hands. I have checked Malaysia and Singapore..none there. But a couple in Australia and New Zealand museums. He said maybe I should go to Papua New Guinea with a metal detector ha ha blink.png
