An interesting quote from the article

The statement said that the hope now is that the Geneva-based World Health Organization (WHO) may recommend the use of the RTS,S vaccine from as early as 2015 if EMA drugs regulators back its licence application.

Testing showed that 18 months after vaccination, children aged five to 17 months had a 46% reduction in the risk of clinical malaria compared to unvaccinated contemporaries.

But in infants aged six to 12 weeks at the time of vaccination, there was only a 27% reduction in risk.

A spokeswoman for GSK told the AFP news agency that the company would file its application to the EMA under a process aimed at facilitating new drugs for poorer countries.

Here's a malarial risk map for Thailand and surrounding areas.

It's not a serious risk for the majority of Thailand, dengue appears to be more threatening. However it's heartening that at long last there may be a vaccine available for Malaria. I have also recently read that there are 5 clinical trials for a dengue vaccine underway too. The sooner the better for the two of them.

This is medical science at it's best.

Great article ... thanks for sharing ... have run out of likes ... be back later.

If it proves successful, it will be a game changer for the world.

The next trick is to have it a price that is affordable to the countries populations where it is prevalent.

Imagine if it could do for the world what the polio vaccine did 50, 60 years ago.
